the Pike are just not moving and hunting Adie, the water is 3.2C so as cold as it gets over here, I anchored in 6 different spots and caught the fish in the first 10 minutes in all 6. so they were already there, I use the one hour rule and add 15 minutes if i get fish just in-case theres more. Never had a fish apart from straight away Wink

Waters come and go Adie, ups and downs. I have 5 main waters I fish, but every year I drop one and fish another hard, with 365 lakes in cavan alone I am really spoilt for choice and thats a bad thing lol. Every water I fish I can think of 30 others I should have gone to affraid affraid affraid

You're a lucky man.

Are the waters in your neck of the woods pressured? Much of an issue with culling/poaching by eastern Europeans? The Central Belt of Scotland is more or less devoid of good pike outside of syndicates and waters that won't open up to pike fishing.

If it is a small water of a few acres then there is a certain amount of pressure with noddies and poachers spinning from the shores, but anything over 500acres requires a boat and that stops the munchers in their tracks. If i chose a water its usually 400acre plus and if i see another person i get upset. so to answer your question, not really pressured no Very Happy

Haha! I did see another person attempting to fish 'my' 10 acre loch last time I was up (which was impossible as it's very difficult to fish from the bank and the ice made that doubly hard) and scowled at them.

you have hit the nail on the head , location is the key when its really cold , find that area and you can still catch fish as Andy has proved its possible ..... Very Happy

maybe there watching this forum pal , somebody who knows you local to you, there is a lot of people just watching the forum ..... if I posted a big fish on here it would be like a pike match the day after on that venue , like the day after I had the big girl the bailiff said he has never seen so many pike anglers descend on the place and I mention no venues......people are not daft .....

Thats very true Stubbo lol. I have 3 boats and the 520 is very recognizable. I alternate boats so nobody sees me day after day. I know thats very sad to say and I dont think I am the pike god. But its hard to keep swims secret, and after 20 years finding them i am loath to give them away. Easy caught and hard found for 20+ Wink

I am finding it hard at the moment and it's not helping that the forecast is for more cold weather.

One question we have been asking when things are slow is how often do you change bait. I usually change every three hours.

If i am static fishing on the alarms, i never change the bait. Let it soak and give off its scent trail. I could be wrong but it seems to work. If in the boat its a move every hour and re oil the baits in every swim. so I do both really Very Happy

when its very slow due to water temps being very low I also change less frequently but normally after every fish...... so that's never then at the moments... Laughing

If i get a bait back, its my favourite bait to reuse. full of holes and leaking body fluids. tatty baits must look like an old damaged prey fish and be super sexy to a pike. Maybe Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
