Haha! I honestly thought that it looked like a larger fish, but the size of the person holding it makes all the difference. I'm 6ft 8", and I could land a British record pike and people would be questioning whether it was over 30lb, let alone 40lb Crying or Very sad

I'm a long way off that mate! We'll be about an hour from Chew Valley, so I'll have to get a few sessions there later this year. I've had hundreds and hundreds of pike, but never a twenty. I'd love to skip that entirely and get a thirty Laughing

Not pike, but we had a great day at Drayton Reservoir on Saturday catching carp off the top. It was our (I went with my friend Ross) first time there, and with a bit of homework, I put us on what we were later informed was 2 of the best three pegs on the lake. It took us a while to get into the swing of it, but we got a system going where one of us spodded pellets in whilst the other fished. As soon as a fish was caught, we swapped over.

We ended up totally knackered by the end of the day. 13 hours fishing, 43 fish caught (of which 42 were double figure) up to 19lb 7oz. We spodded about 25kg of pellets in (probably about half that weight dry, as I've found the carp take more confidently with presoaked pellets) and the next day everything ached.

On account of getting the best pegs and putting so much bait in, we are pretty sure we caught more than anyone else that day on the lake, which is probably an unrepeatable performance. We owe much to the kind chap to our right who had the third of the three best pegs, as we all shared feeding one large swim, and it's by emulating his set up (huge spod, huge controller float) that we caught so well. We were advised before going to spod over zigs, but that didn't appeal and speaking to other anglers, didn't catch well on the day.

Here is my 19lb 7oz:

The next day, I couldn't fish on account of family commitments, but I took Ross to Stanwick lakes fishery the other side of Northampton. A searing hot, sunny day with lots of shy biting carp cruising the surface. Ross managed to winkle just one fish off the surface at 20lb 3oz (the shitbag) beating my pb by 12oz Evil or Very Mad

My all time favourite method.

We move to Devon on Friday, and as it's my birthday on Saturday, I'm out fishing. Going to hit the local 'easy' commercial with my Scottish friend for a friendly match. Last time I went there I did 440lb of carp (77 fish) off the surface in 5hrs 20 minutes!

I had a little session on the local lough, the water temps are down to 18C and the pike are getting active, i was targeting Trout on tasmanian devils, and Perch on the drop shot rig. 6 trout to 1.5lb and 4 pike to 14lb on the drop shot. some fight on 10lb braid and 12lb flouro tippet. I wont target the pike but it was a nice surprise. i unhooked all in the water to reduce the stress Wink

its not really cold enough to fish for pike yet and its not even October either. I wonder if I can get away with fishing a boilie on a single hook under a sliding pike float and just pretend im fishing for pike.....

The water is cool enough on the big deep lakes over here thankfully. 8hrs yesterday trolling two pike lures and a tasmanian devil for a sneaky Trout. 10oz, 3lb 8oz, 3lb 12oz and a 4lb 9oz trout plus missed 5. Three pike to 4lb and a single perch. EVERY SINGLE ONE Shocked came to the tasmanian devil. WTF lol

well done lads, they all count Very Happy i had a day trolling large cranks for my first Pike session. 10 perch over 1lb, plus a jack and a 17lb (guestimated) that threw the lure at me right at the net. Not too bad a start to the season Very Happy the water is down to 13C so perfect temps for fish survival.
