I have used the fox ledger stems. They help keep the line clear of weed and debris on the bed. Mark Green (selby RO) uses them a lot and I've seen him catch loads using them. These look like they go one step further in offering protection to the line above the lead. Just like up traces. Give them a try and let us know.

never used a stiff boom down from the float to the bait like that - what's the advantage? Surely the pike will feel resistance?
I'd be willing to try it if i knew what benefits it would bring

i think your paying for the name. a ledger stem and that tubeing the carp guys use will cost far less. as for resistance. it will be there from the start, i dont think it would put them off. but hey i've been wrong before.

ya just use them for ledgering mate not with the float!
and there is no resistance as its totaly free running set up! just proped up with the floating boom it heps keep the line off the bottom away from weeds so when u get a pickup the pike can just move away with the bait, and feel no resistance from weed on the floor! thay work spot on!

Re: Greys prowla fledger boom.............
they certainly look good...... definite advantages for straight ledger over weed.... and also possible anti tangle properties for long casts. might try making a few myself

how long is the tube?
im thinking 20 inches or so of wire plus the tube then the lead could make for an awkward cast

that will be around a foot in old money. seen then in the shops bud. over priced, you can make cheeper at home to the same affect. everything with greys on it is over priced. and there fly rods are crap.

i would have to agree with on this one noodle, i can't see any massive advantage over other technique's used in the past.

Can't see any anti-tangle properties at all with anything more than an under-arm lob.
The more complicated the terminal tackle usually means more tangles.
Keep it simple.
There is no need to always use a resistance free rig. Pike in general are not put off by resistance. Look at float fishing for example - that certainly is not resistance free.
I use 3 and 4oz leads on a paternoster rig on a regular basis and don't suffer dropped runs.

i agree to a certain extent adam, but on pressured waters where the big girls have been caught a few times before they may become wary of any resistance so minimal resistance rigs would be a must to fool them. i know we're not talking carp here but i've seen this happen before.

Robh.......I have never found this to be the case so maybe its the waters I fish as I tend to stay away from busy or pressurised venues and over the years have suffered relatively few dropped runs.

Re: Greys prowla fledger boom.............
yes thats probably it adam.... the problem i have round my neck of the woods is that nearly all the waters that contain pike recieve at least some pressure.
there was only one i found that didnt and last year that got decimated by seals, shame really because it was THAT water where i hooked into that pike which just did its own thing no matter how much pressure i put on the rod last january (that was before the seals turned up so it was definitely not one of them that had picked up my bait)
