One week to go; Have you achieved your goals?
Has the 2008/9 season been a success for you? What were your goals and did you achieve them?

Re: One week to go; Have you achieved your goals?
its definitely been the worst pike season ever for me..... only 1 double all season (14lb 4oz back in september) and despite being out an average of once a week i've hardly had anything of note to show for it.
after my 4th blank in a row i'm giving up on the pike til september now..... i'll be concentrating on smaller species til then and possibly a day or two's carping.

Re: One week to go; Have you achieved your goals?
This has been my first season fishing for Pike having started fishing again in the Autumn of 2007 after a break of about 10 years and I've had a great season, although I've not hit my target of a 20lb river fish, I've not been too far off it a few times so I'm not disappointed, just happy to have caught some great fish. I'm lucky that I get to fish about 3 times a week but these are usually only short 2 to 3 hour sessions. I might have a few sessions on a big gravel pit complex for a few weeks until it warms up properly, then dust off the Carp gear and try for a few water pigs! I had a few off the top last summer up to 17lb which was great fun, also, I have a mate who likes to noddy fish and I've said I'd try a few local commercial fisheries with him during the closed season
Re: One week to go; Have you achieved your goals?
Can't really complain, only two fish but it is my first season, albeit a short one from mid November till now
Don't think i will be standing idle until October, despite only being geared up for Pike, may have a bash at catching one or two 'water pigs', like Robh.

Generally it's been a cracking season for me - up until mid Jan that is when everyting went blank for a few weeks. My average weight so far has been around 12lb so i'm pleased with that too.
Got one last shot at getting a 20 on the bank this season either tomorrow or monday so fingers crossed...

Re: One week to go; Have you achieved your goals?
not beem out much this season, so not a lot of fish been caught.
I did manage to get a few barbel and a couple of 4lb eels, quite a few double figure pikeand a few 20+, the best being 2x 25lb+ one of which fell to a homemade fly
all the best to everyone towards the end of this season and hope you all have a better one coming up

Re: One week to go; Have you achieved your goals?
I have had a great season, my only goal was to enjoy every minute i have on the bank, and apart from one or two very quick spells of Pike depresion i have done that. I was invited to one of Charlie Bettels fish ins, for those of you who visit the P&P forum you will know of him, i have to say he is a nice guy, he laid the boats on and had a barby for us, at his own cost, that was a great day. i went to Ireland with Neville Fickling, another great guy, who also has a reputation of being a miserable so and so amongst a few, but hey we cant please every one i caught a 24lbs 4oz fish which is my P.B. and another 6 nearing the 20 mark, if you get a chance to go fish the Shannon grab it, i have to say the fish are in an entirely different league to any thing i have caught before I also joined some forums and get a lot of good stuff from them, this one is without a doubt the best for me, so yes a good season a little bit slow over the past two months or so, the weather playing its part, but hey we will still be on the bank every opportunity we get in the new season

the 30lb esox still eludes me but that has been a somewhat lifelong goal, this seasons goal has been to investigate a lot of different waters - which i think fishing 17 different waters and catching pike at every one of them has been fun , altho hard work, rewarding at the same time- spending time on these waters has given me a short list for next season as well as a couple of new summer venues for a bit of carping and some good crucian fishing- i shall still fish my most favourite waters next season as well as a more concentrated effort on the new ones

Re: One week to go; Have you achieved your goals?
Fished much harder, travelled much further a field mainly with the boat but I am well pleased with my season it's turned out to be my best yet as I look forward to my last two trips of the season. All fish caught have been from either rivers or drains.
To cap it all my son Jack caught his new pb last Saturday from Menteith weighing 29lb 2oz whilst I blanked. Not that it mattered seeing the look on his face
All the best and tight lines to all.
John

Awesome result John, well done to you both as I'm sure it was a team effort. What else was caught at Menteith?

Re: One week to go; Have you achieved your goals?
I got a new PB so I guess you can say it's been good so far.
I say 'so far' cos I still go for pike in the warmer months.
During these warmer months I tend to go for spinning and lures mostly but have done a spot of deadbaiting last summer but didn't have much success.
Let's hope I can beat my PB again. Only this time I want it with a lure

Many thanks for your kind comments fellas. I didn't make him walk home but he had to buy the burger king for tea then un-load the van and sort the gear out when we arrived home.
Biggest fish out was 36lb 10oz caught by Scotty Davidson, Jacks was the second biggest of the day. I think there in total 7 twenties caught plus plenty of doubles and Jacks.
Hope you all have a good end to the season and to those that fish on past close season good luck to you as well.
All the best
John

After a few missed runs recently & sitting behind two bait rods for hours on most of my trips, going to give the spinning rod & 1970's Mitchell 300 (out of retirement) a go at the weekend, so Notiinghamshire water side tree's, weedbeds, Bullrushes, dog walkers & general 'passers bye', look out, Bazz is about!!
The Pike probably have nothing to fear regards getting caught!
