Hi fellas,

just stumbled across this site looking for somewhere to go piking tomorrow! Appears some of you already fish a regular winter haunt of mine in Tyram.

I currently live in a place called Thurcroft in Rotherham but tend only to pike fish through the winter, spent quite a bit of time down at Alderfen this summer after tench as well as the odd trip down to Bluebell and enjoy overnighters with my fishing buddy Sean (who I'm sure is gonna join the site as soon as I send him the link!).

Have 3 fabulous kids aged 12,5 & 2....aswell as a money drain of a fiancee!

Been piking on and off for a few years but really only got into it properly over the last 2. PB currently 19lb from pit 6 on the A1 lakes complex (scared me to bleedin death!), my photo is a 12lb 7oz fish from the canal at Thorne January 08 (caught on a lure which I don't really do!).

Like I said, we're off piking tomorrow and were thinking of having a bash at Damflask, but we really like the Syndicate Lake at Tyram, I was under the impression day tickets for pike were only available Mon-Thurs....I would love to be told this isn't the case though!!!!

Regards - Norbs Smile

Think we're sticking to Damflask today, gotta wait till the bloody tackle shop opens though, didn't get finished at work early enough yesterday!

My mate is fishing Tyram on Weds so I'm gonna get him to find out off the bailiff how we're fixed for weekends.

I'll let you know how bad we blank today Wink

Hi there mate.

Have yet to give the Pilfrey Bridge area a go.

For some reason never given it a go despite being told countless times how good it can be there.

There's an old fella comes into work who fishes for pike there and he also mentioned near where he lives (Brigg i think he said) where there are apparently some monsters.

Next time I see him I'll get some more info and pass it on.

Post  topthatpike on Tue Oct 07, 2008 7:53 pm

cheers for the warm welcome, i have fished around the scunthorpe / brigg area alot and am willing to disclose some good spots around them areas where to fish and what bait i have found works the best.
Brigg. at the side of the lesure centre is a good spot (sardines) and also as you head out to cadney.
scunthorpe. ashby ville is opposite the steel works in scunthorpe is a very large gravel pit dug out in the war it holds some big fish, i find the best spots around the back of the island on the sandy point, sardine / sprat and lamprey all work well especially in the channel that runs down to the island also 1 day i was spinning around the back of the island near the new houses and this old lady was walking her dog she threw a stick in the water for her jack russle the dog jump in after the stick the next thing i saw was a big swirl on the top of the water and the dog had gone? ? the old woman was mortified. but there is rummers of some big cats in there but i have never seen 1.
and does anyone know if they are holdin pike qualifers at pilfry bridge this year.
mad bad angler would be grateful if you would let me know what is comming out around there at the min. i find it fishes better in january / febuary time. affraid

Hi topthatpike.

Yeah, the old guy mentioned the leisure centre if I remember rightly. He said summat about you can park there and the river is just after it. Apparently, just a little further into the town there is another part of the river as well. He said that's a good spot too.

Cos I want him to come into work he's stayed away, not been for 3 weeks now. Said he will fetch some fotos of his catches in for me to look at.

Hope he's alright.......

yes you can park in leisure centre car park it is at the side of the river and as you go into brigg town centre you can fish the river there in the centre but if you turn left at the roundabout after leisure centre then go left again it takes you to the opposite side of the marina also a good spot as the bream seem to group up under the motorway bridge. Basketball
i now live in rotherham and am tryin to find some good waters around here i bin told ully res is good i not got any transport at min so i need to keep it local i bin on canal but only had jacks out.
hope you try pilfry bridge it is well worth the effort ( No livebaiting) but i know gudgeon work well on this method.
tight lines mate hope you catch the big 1 lol!
