Newbies....come and say hello - Page 3 Empty Just thought I'd say hello

Post  Steve N on Sun Oct 26, 2008 11:21 am

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd say hello. My name's Steve.Just started back fishing again after nearly 20 yrs.I used to fish in the late 80's mainly for carp, but now I'm trying mostly for pike and that's how I stumbled upon this site and the forum. It looks like a great place to learn and get tips from, which I'm hoping to do as I am a little rusty, but it's coming back to me bit by bit.
I've fished the Torne so far, just a few times and caught just the one fish (picture below) only a small one but it's a start.Lost a couple as well one on a lure and one on a deadbait.

Hoping to go to Bolton Brick Ponds Nr Goldthorpe sometime next week if possible.Wondered if any of you have fished there before..??? Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Welcome to the site Steve....

I've never fished Bolton Brickponds but have been told there are some decent pike in there.

My one tip for the place would be to put your car somewhere you can see it Wink

Do most of my piking on the Torne, where abouts do you go?
My fishing's mainly on the stretch just past Tyram hall.

Hope to see you there one day?

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas, most appreciated.I've fished the Torne in 2 places.Near to the Crowle turn off heading back past the golf course towards the M180, a small stretch on the left near to a bridge (hope you know where I mean..??) and also further up the road on the way towards Scunthorpe (3 Rivers bit...?)
I'd forgot about the stretch near to Tyram.I used to float fish there as a kid.So there are some good pike in this stretch then..?? Also have a friend who's Dad reckons the River Idle can be quite good for pike, somewhere near to Austerfield.

Hi there webo.

I too used to live at woodlands, left in 1982 when I got fostered.
Lived in the kids home on Shaftsbury Avenue that is now a private day nursery (no.85).
The folks that fostered me ran the home and I moved in with them at Barnby Dun.
It was my foster dad who got me into fishing but hated predators because they are "all teeth and bad attitude" Laughing

Sadly he lost his fight with lung problems 1st August this year and it was very hard for me the first time I went fishing after that. My avatar is the foto I had taken by my fishing buddy that day. So really that pike is dedicated to dad.

Anyway, hopefully us Donny lads and others will get together for a session. Have you seen my post for the Tyram trip?

I've never been there yet so looking forward to it.

All the best.

Every single time.

It's easier for me now I've had time to mourn him. Still miss him like crazy and half expect him to turn up asking "Tha caught owt yet, lad?"
