World record pike??????
The Angling Times recon this pike is 67lb
If correct it beats the previous biggest by 12 pounds.

Re: World record pike??????
looks like it could be around that size...... but there is no way of knowing for sure unless it was properly verified at the time of capture

Re: World record pike??????
its been modified to high heaven look at his right hand he is either holding it up wit one finger or he has a spare invisible hand.
the creases near the dorsal...
the fact it seems to be lying on the ground around the tail area yet is clear of the floor

Re: World record pike??????
i just had a closer look at it and i agree totally.... if you follow the crease on the right side of the dorsal and look closely it actually runs onto the snow behind the fish... and the same thing occurs on the crease which runs across the fish's pectorals.
there is only one other feasible explanation for the creases.... the photo was took on an old camera and the image we're seeing is a scanned rather than digital image, and the photo was damaged before it reached the scanner.
this still doesnt explain the one finger right hand thing or the tail appearing to be off the ground although its posture would suggest it is actually on the ground though.
over to the rest of you lol

Re: World record pike??????
also if you follow the line of his left arm from the elbow down, isn't his hand at totally the wrong angle?

Re: World record pike??????
also 2 other points of interest i've just realised..... the dark patch of snow...... at first i thought it was just either his or the fish's shadow but it doesnt really follow anything else in the pic.... and i've NEVER had a pike laid on the snow thats melted it like that either
THEN theres the line of his right arm....... it doesnt follow to where he's apparently holding the belly of the fish

Re: World record pike??????
Even if the pic was convincing - which it isn't - I would not believe any claim for a weight so far in excess of an existing record (67lb to 55lb = 22% in this case).
In comparison Usein Bolt would have to run 100m in 7.48 seconds (WR = 9.59sec) to beat it by 22%
And the mile would need to be run in 3 min 8 sec to beat Roger Bannisters 1954 record by 22% (the current record is 3 min 43 sec in 1999 by Hicham el Guarrouj)
It still makes a nice throw away headline in the papers though.

Re: World record pike??????
andy you say 55lb for pike record, but 3 weeks ago in the anglers mail there was a picture of a 57lb pike caught on a fox lure in Italy, which they said had been accepted as the new record. did you see anything of it? looked a huge fish and was a very good photo.

In this day and age, when even your worst phone has picture quality of 2 mega pixels, I refuse to accept their validity. I don't even think it's anywhere near the stated weight anyway. It's big alright but it's nothing like 67lbs.
