On our recent Lure trip MrMakk (Alex) was rather unlucky & stumbled on some rough ground, took a dive & his 7' Lure rod got broken! Evil or Very Mad
I lent him my 6'6" Daiwa Whisker Jerkbait rod with an ABU 6601 C4 fitted. He was soon having trouble with over runs & wind knots. Given the lightness of his Lures, I suspect I would have had the same trouble. I bought the gear to fish a deep clay pit on a private water I fish, it can be 25' deep a rod length out & is a mile long.. Shocked It will chuck out 6 & 8" four-play lures & the Fox 6" Replicants out no worries but they are quite heavy Smile

well im glad im not the only person with the quantum iron reel Very Happy

not bad i must admit but not up to shimano or penn standards

i dont use the abu but i am in a minority and the thing with them is there will always be someone to help with the parts or tuning

oh and the industry standard things springs to mind me with what i use, well im probably the one in ten who dont use reels like the 5601 or 6501's

if its for light lures the toothy critter may suit you if you can tune it yourself nothing major just clean the crap lube out of it with pertrol or lighter fluid, polish a few surfaces up and relube with a decent lube (gt 85 will work as andy says dont DONT dont use wd 40 though as it emulsifies in the bearings) i like rocket fuel but sewing machinew oil also works well and is dirt cheap

they were all multi rods (trigger grip) there was a reasonable jerk sort of rod rated 60-80 gms and a longer two pice that was rated to 50ish gms if i remember correctly

dont think he has a website give him a ring

Prescot Angling Centre18-20 St. Helens Road, Prescot, Merseyside L34 6HR

p: 01514265011

im not on a comission or anything here i was really shocked at the price

i was looking at 7000 abus for trolling and maybe a little beach work

I also brought a Avanti Azure BL 300 Front drag reel....I loaded that with the spare 30lb braid and had a practice cast on yard with a spoon[trebles removed] felt good....should be a cracker when on the water geek
