Re: mitchell 300XGE
i have a mitchell that i use as a back up/3rd rod reel and although its only smallish it has never given me any problems even with very large pike.
if the 300XGE is anything like the one i've got then it'll be a good lil bit of kit

Re: mitchell 300XGE
the abu 55 got a cracked spool, which was a common fault on them, think they was the first proper carp reel, the abu 54 was used for tench fishing on my old float rod.when tench fishing in the early 80,s we used bottle tops then saved up for the new gardner monkey climmers[yellow ones].with no baitrunners on reels we just let the reel spin round when we got a run,we called that churner fishing.happy happy days..

I really rate mitchells, so like others on here, even though i haven't tried this one, i'd trust the name to provide you with a good reliable reel mate.

Re: mitchell 300XGE
I had a Mitchell 300XGE. It was a great little reel until I hooked a canoe while Lure fishing on the Trent!
I always manage to catch something on the Trent (apart from fish....usually snags, canoes & Cormorants )
It was an epic battle with 45lb Fox Predator braid & my 9' Esox Spinflex rod versus an irate canoeist! The line eventually gave but the spindle in the reel got badly bent and the reel became unusable! I now use a Fladen 2500 reel which is a great little reel (it has Okuma written all over its design/appearance).
The Mitchell Premiums are rather poorly constructed, very plasticky
