Do good scales cost a fortune ?
Bought some Diawa scales and the needle was stuck, really poor quality.
Taking them back in the morning. I need a set of lightweight scales that are accurate and not too expensive ?
Thanks

I used to have a Rapala digital scale as in the pic below - I won it in a competition so am not sure what they cost, but will say that it was the most reliable scale I ever owned and would reccomend one to anybody (no I am not a Rapala merchant and am not on commission either)...................
-waterproof (swam mine a few times)
-shockproof (can really take a beating)
-compact (handle & hook fold away)
-backlight (for night weighing).

cheapish and last for years
avons, they do only weigh up to 44lb though
im surprised by the daiwa though its usually top gear. the only thing by daiwa i can fault is the bulldawg copys which were about as robust as tesco own brand toilet roll, and they didnt work the tail action was none existent

Re: Do good scales cost a fortune ?
I use Samson 33lb scales (18 quid and reliable as hell...tested against another 3 sets)...I know the worst will happen sooner or later and they'll bottom out but as luck would have it, my mate just bought a set of Reuben Heaton 55lb scales so there shouldn't be much of a problem, unless I happen to beat Tommy Morgan's record....which by the way IS the UK record, if any of you happen to check. The information is online for you to check but the record didn't stand because our Tommy tethered his rod to a tree while he boated out his over sized roach bait, which technically classed as a fixed engine. That still doesn't detract from the fact it was the biggest pike caught in British waters by rod and line. Sour grapes if you ask me.
Just as a side-note...I wonder how many of Nige Williams fish made the 40lb mark with a 3lb tench stuffed down it's gullet I wonder?....lol
