Fox run rings and beads Empty Fox run rings and beads

Post  RICKYBIGGS Mon Jan 25, 2010 7:33 pm

I was ledgering the other day with a lead attached to the mainline via a snaplink and a large swivel on a drain that was being pumped quite fast and lots of weed was coming down and the swivel kept getting clogged up making it effectively a bolt rig so I thought about buying some run rings and beads.Has anyone used these before and do they clog up less?

Thanks
Ricky

for me they are an absolute must for all free running rigs mate.... they do occasionally clog up but it will be to nowhere near the extent you described.
dont get the fox ones though...... buy the john roberts run rings and beads pack, they're much better quality and cheaper too Very Happy

I prefer these helicopter swivels over the plastic run rings, which can wear through if using braid...

Interesting choice Mark,

I use braid but the reason I use the Fox or John Roberts run rings is to use something with the largest clearance to give as much free running as possible. Cool

Yep, but the slightest wear/grooving can affect the free running aspect of plastic run rings....

The large eye of those swivels is no smaller than a run ring Nightwatchman, and just as free running.

Never freelined before but I suppose it could be a good tactic if used with proper bite indication, what setup do you guys use?do you use same setup as you do when using a lead?

when i do it all i use is one tiny fox weight the ones with the rubber elastic just to wind down to not totally free lining but close enough you can straight wind down to full mackrills with no lead at all on the right water Very Happy
