pre-spawn deadbaiting
Hi there all!
Just posted a similar question on the lures section but wondered what you guys thoughts were on deadbaiting methods for pre-spawning pikes
I'm off piking this weekend on the lake and am going to target the margins between the drop offs and the shallower spawning bays.
Hoping to do a bit of deadbaiting and some lure fishing too.
Do you think that targeting the deep drop offs by the spawning bays would still be the best tatic, or perhaps another method?
Your advice is gold, thanks in advance lads, I'll land a pike yet!
Steve

Re: pre-spawn deadbaiting
although the area,s suggested by yourself probably produce fish and if you decide to fish them and the fish are feeding i,d probably pop baits up or paternoster them near the drop off or shelf ,
but wouldn,t choosing your location be better once you arrive on the day as conditions or sighting of striking fish might suggest to you another area ??

Tackle Tart,
thanks for the speedy response, yes your bang on there i guess the conditions/behaviour could be radically different to the info Im getting for the water today!
im just pretty inexperienced and wasnt sure, if assuming they are in the drop off/spawning areas, how best to fish em..

Re: pre-spawn deadbaiting
As long as the fish aren't actively breeding and all the unhooking gear is ready and waiting, I see no problem fishing for pre-spawn pike.

Andy,
Thanks for the message mate, sorry if my initial Q was a bit unclear, I am definately not interesting in fishing for the pike when there are actively spawning, would be horrified if I hurt/killed one of them!

I didn't imagine you were. I was generally speaking for everyone's benefit. I tend to do that. Speak aloud as it were.
