Re: pollen (pop up )
Pollen only pop up themselves due to a very large swim bladder. These fish spend most of there time at great depths 80ft or more, so when they are landed there bladders expand like a balloon. If you buy them in Vacum packed bags, all the air is extracted so they dont pop up any more, try to look for freeze dried and not vacum packed as they always float
Re: pollen (pop up )
Yacuum packed deads have all the air extracted from the swim bladder when packing bait shop i use will now not accept them unless loose this has led to some difficulties in getting them all the time

If you pour a small amount of sugar down their throats and then pop them back in the freezer, when you go to use them they will be mega mega bouyant.

Kell, buy them in bulk from a well known tackle shop near you they are frozen without them being vac packed, either that or I will hire you some when we meet up next

Re: pollen (pop up )
the hiring of pollen sounds great to me steve but i am not paying if the pollen gets its self lost (when i wind in it has gone )
and i am not paying for weedy unfit pollen ( pike has won the battle and has it in it's jaws when i wind in.
and i am not paying for pollen that is chewed to bits when it comes back in.
but apart from them few things i think i will hire ONE off you ?

Re: pollen (pop up )
Pollen aren't that great as far as baits go IMHO. Their only advantage seems to be the fact they're supposed to float. Seems a little pointless to me when popping up good baits like lamprey or mackerel is pretty straightforward.
There's many baits I'd have before I used pollen.
