I always use the "palomar" knot. 100pc reliable, never had one fail.

what knots do you regularly use for tying mono / braid to swivels etc ??

I am such a back handed prat that the only knot I use is an 8 turn Grinner.

yup has to be the palomar - consistantly the highest breaking strain knot be it mono or braid. Tied right it has no weak pinch points like on other knots.

Thats a handy link Tootal. Just checked it out. Very Happy

Am i right in thinking that the double blood knot is a strangulation knot and not recommended for mono or does anyone know differently ??

If it is , you might wanna change your knots S6 PIKER M8.

If any of you have a smartphone there's an app called 'Knot Guide' which is excellent and also has step by step guides to all the important fishing knots.

As for your question doug, I work in an industry where I do lots of rigging and working at height etc, and we always work on the principle that if you put a knot of any kind into a rope / etc you immediately halve it's b/s or safe working load. I try to use this principle in my angling too...something to think about. It can get more technical than that (angle of force / materials used etc etc) but as a general guide it's not a bad one to live by.

That's why i like to use 40lb braid for my bait fishing and 80lb braid for my lure fishing

Mmm, thats a good answer Tootal. So, do you think the blood knot is a strangulation knot ?

i would class it as a strangulation knot - but a good one lol

It will hold true as long as the two lines are of very similar diameter. Have one or the other too large/small in diameter and it will slip.

I always used to use Blood knot until i saw the Palomar knot in a magazine. Tried it and never looked back. Wouldnt use anything else now. So so simple and 100% reliable. Superb !
