Has any one ever used a swim feeder instead of a plain lead whilst Pike fishing? Either an open end crammed with fish bits or a maggot feeder with maggots to attract the small stuff? Is there a danger that the pike would pick up the feeder instead of the bait for instance?

I doubt that the pike would grab a maggot feeder the wriggly wee critters escape from it no time i'm not sure about the open ended 1s though the fish bits would have to be pretty finely chopped to get out i'd prob opt for a method feeder if i was using fish chunks

I have indeed got a modified cage feeder in with my pike tackle. Kell gave me some 'pike bombs' a while back and my modified feeder accepts the 'bombs'.

Can't say there's been any difference noted in using the feeder though Rolling Eyes

Having used feeders for pike for years, I cannot recall ever having a feeder piked up by a pike. It might have happened but pike teeth maul epoxied lures. Feeders would mark up pretty easily I think AND the majority of runs I've had with feeders have resulted with fish on the hooks.

Chopped fish is good but so is cotton wool liberally soaked with fish oil.

Im just worried that they might pick up the feeder and bite me off, perhaps if I use a really long trace and have the feeder on that...

If you're that concerned, why not use a piece of rubber rig tubing on the last foot of your mainline?
