Ive spoken to the guy who caught this fish and he confirms to me it was a 46lb 1 oz monster. i believe him because ive known him for a long time and i have no reason to think he would lie. he is a stand up guy and im chuffed to bits for him. he is really gutted he didnt have a camera and has explained he actually thought the british record was closer to 55+ lbs which is one of the reasons he didnt take it in or have another boat come and photograph it. he only fishes for pike a few times a year and was fishing the water on a day ticket. congrats to him.

Re: 46LB 1OZ PIKE FROM LAKE DISTRICT
anglers mail have heralded it as the new english record..... i'd want more proof than just a few big names saying its possible for the water to throw up such a large pike..... we already knew that!!!

Re: 46LB 1OZ PIKE FROM LAKE DISTRICT
The fish in the photo is a well documented capture from a small trout reservoir, it was caught twice in quick succession and a video of one of the captures is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8hwovkmrAg.
It has absolutely nothing to do with the 46lb pike reportedly captured in the last week from a certain Cumbrian water.

Hi Everyone. just found and joined this forum but i regularly post on pikeforum.co.uk
the above quote dave newman has used is my quote from the above mentioned forum. as i stated i spoke to the guy when the story broke as i know him quite well. to answer some of the comments made on here: he DID have a phone with him which had a camera on it but didnt take a pic for a couple of reasons. the main one was he had quite a tussle with the fish after netting it in that whilst doing so he first knocked his unhooking mat in to the water and when that had been retrieved he wanted to unhook the fish and get it back in the water as soon as possible. (big thumbs up for putting the fish first) he has also stated to me that he is obviously gutted that he didnt take a photo but truly didnt realise it would have been an english record. Yes it was from esthwaite and it was on a day ticket. he has caught pike to 30lb from the same water before and it has always had rumours about its pike population being special. i have fished the water before and blanked with my boat partner only catching a jack so as with any water being in the right place at the right time is crucial. believe him or not i'm not here to tell you he's telling the truth only thast i believe him. great forum and look forward to contributing more in the future.

Re: 46LB 1OZ PIKE FROM LAKE DISTRICT
seems like his unhooking mat came first. at the end of the day most people will listen to stories about big fish but dont believe them. but im sure this will be debated for another couple of pages with the same outcome. welcome to the forum tho i only joined 2 month ago!
