As I have said before "low double" , it's time to change your name . Some great fish again, you can tell that you've been working hard for them of late, so fantastic to see such great fish produced. Those pike are really great looking specimens. Get in there.

Re: Anybody Catching
Thanks Piketastic The fishing over in Ireland can really be fantastic as the Pike rarely if ever see a baited rig. So I can not take too much credit lol. I am originally from Worksop and the loughs over here are a far cry from Langold lake

Five doubles, two twenties and sixteen jacks, that's a great day, well done. Did you move about much or were they all from the same area?

Re: Anybody Catching
We anchored in 4 different areas Eric, but all on the shelves of the deep holes. The exact spot was picked purely by wind direction so we got the longest drifter runs at the required depth if that makes sense lol. 15 to 18ft was the killing depth.
Now Peppery C , I have suffered many many blanks and the odd jack here and there so it was just as special for me. I have had days with more fish landed but not as big an average size. Your day will come
Psion I have never been to Clare except to buy a boat so no real help sorry. You must love it to keep coming back, I came over once, fell in love and moved over the year after. 16 years and not a single regret

Re: Anybody Catching
Certainly beats a blank Adie. When I get bored of any sized Pike I will pack it all in. Always great to hear the alarm or see the float dip under

Re: Anybody Catching
Hard days blank for me guys but was fine to get the rods and lines oot.
what bait do you use at this time of year, a guy put me onto eels in the summer which was fine then but im having no luck whereas my mate had two runs on the mackerel, big and smelly for the winter?
plus he was using BIG baits....wheras i was going smallish?

Re: Anybody Catching
Not a easy one as every water is different
My first choice baits are Joey mackerel and Smelt as big as I can get them
Mackerel tails
Lamprey
Pollen
Roach
Bream
The list goes on
They all work well on the day
I would just keep changing baits until you find the best ones on your waters
big or small they all work
But for me and I know its not everyones cup of tea but livebait is my favourite

Re: Anybody Catching
What bait? It depends on the conditions. I fished on Thursday at a water that was heavily coloured and had four fish up to 15lb 4oz. Two were on herrings, but I cut through the herrings gills to remove the head. The gills have a lot of blood in them so this releases plenty of scent. One was on a half mackerel and I cut up the other half into eight pieces and scattered the pieces around the hookbait to release more scent. One was on a lure, a spinnerbait, spinnerbaits are the absolute first choice for coloured water. My mate, fishing in the swim nextdoor, struggled a bit with only one jack. He was on livebaits, livebaits are not always the best choice, especially in coloured water.
On Friday I fished a water that is gin clear and chose to fish with jerkbaits. I had a twelve pounder within five minutes of starting to fish and followed it up with two smaller fish. I bumped into another angler fishing deadbaits and he hadn't had anything.
Think about which of the pike's senses they will be using. In clear water they use their eyes a lot, in dirty water they use their sense of smell/taste.
