Re: help which alarm
my uncle has just got back into fishing again, and he's asked me to look up on alarms for him so i have trolled ebay and found these....
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-Top-Rubber-Finish-Fishing-Bite-Alarm-Indicator-/320509649707?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_SportingGoods_FishingAcces_RL&hash=item4a9fdd232b#ht_500wt_956
To me they looks simalir to the sundridge optonics but for a fraction of the price...........
the seller seems to have very good feedback i might just even get a pair to see what they are like

paddy pike wrote: They look the part MrMakk, And at that price i dont think you can go wrong
I'm thinking of getting a set.........
trial and error really,
out of all honesty i thinks it just that.......... if they are cheap, they seem to have all the buttons and works. why pay out that price of arm and leg for alarms? these one also have sensitivity control an for some one like me as well as others they might just be spot on for what i'm about to receive.
Re: help which alarm
well i think you should get them, Then write a report on them, As to how they work and sound, Good thing about eBay is if they are cr@p you can always return them

robh107 wrote:microns are good if you're fishing with baitrunners in freespool mode but if you're fishing with open bale arms/drop off indication then stay away from the micron m mate.... i have some and they just do not indicate a run properly with non-tensioned line running across them (the line roller is too small and set too tight).
as for the warrior i have no idea as i have never used one.
ore
That doesn't happen if you keep your butt ring tight against the alarm. That's how I do it anyway. Not a problem.

Re: help which alarm
lol mate we've been through this one a few times before..... i just cant get them to pick up every little twitch even with the butt ring against them.
last few sessions i've actually resurrected my old shakespeare zenith alarms which are 15 years old and basically the original optonic alarm complete with very free moving large roller wheel.... they are far easier to use with open bale arms and they DO sound at every movement even with slack line moving across them when the alarm is positioned mid way between two rod rings, the microns just dont come anywhere close in terms of indication.

Re: help which alarm
I'm not suggesting there aren't better or more sensitive alarms. Never have.
I'm just saying I've never found it to be a problem, except when using Berkley Big Game, which came off the reel in big coils and no matter how I positioned the rod, the coils skipped over the alarm.
I dare say the size of the butt rig and how far it stands off the blank has a bearing too. A small ring, close to the blank, might suffer badly....I guess.

yeah the size of the rod rings ocured to me too... it could be that yours stand off the blank more than mine which means yours create more of an angle for the line to drag across the roller. all i know is that i personally cant get them to indicate properly unless i'm using baitrunners when after carp.
