Fox Predator - Hi-Visibility Dart Float - Setup Empty Fox Predator - Hi-Visibility Dart Float - Setup

Hi

I am looking for some tips on the best way to go about rigging a Hi-Visibility Dart Float (Small - 8g).

What's the best size of dead bait to use as well as the weight of the bomb to help balance the float etc?

Cheers

Hi Raf,

If you intend to use the Fox dart floats for normal deadbait float fishing then I would advise using a Fox small/medium egg sinker above the trace. I use the large float with the medium and fish all range of bait sizes with no issues.

It's a great float to use in windy conditions and I have fond memories of watching it slowly disappear when catching my first decent pike.

I most often fish a range of 2-8ft so never have the bait on the bottom.

Hope this helps

Thanks Dan

Would I be correct in assuming this is the way to set up the rig onto my main line?

1. Tie on a stop knot.
2. Thread on a bead.
3. Thread on the float.
4. Another bead?
5. Egg Sinker
6. Another bead?
7. Wire Trace & Bait
8. Then set stop knot length so that bait will drift off the bottom.

Cheers

Yep, that's it mate.

Some people wouldn't bother with as many beads but they are there to act as a buffer and therefore protect your float/swivel/knots from damage. The bead between your float and your stop knot is a must to help prevent the stop knot from slipping through the float and therefore not doing it's job.

i use the dart float for general drifting my deads and for ledger float work i use the fox pencils..

simple setup:

snap tackle / trace / SSG shot on the trace nearest to the main line / bead / float / bead / stop knott

i dont like attaching shot to the main line, hence why i attach it to the trace rather than the line or the snap tackle itself.

you dont have to do it my way, as stated you can use a bullet weights, which again i dont use (but do own them)

if fishing lives or deads on slider floats at a depth then id use the bullet weights, but at present my venue is weedy so only fishing 1ft deep, trace and 1 treble hook. They are nailing them big time Smile

Tried out the float this weekend for the first time with the egg sinkers attached and let it drift from the deep water into shallower water until it was eventually sitting on the bottom.

Worked a treat but didn't get a nibble in a new spot I was trying.

I might give that idea a go with the float fishing just about a foot under the surface as the area I fish has large banks of weedy areas.

Hopefully my local fishing hole hasn't been overfished as keep getting told that some of the reservoirs have seen stocks plummet as the pike is seen as a delicacy to some Sad
