Uptraces On Running Leger Rigs
There's a discussion on uptraces on P&P just now and the subject of running leger rigs came up. Seems a lot of people advocate their use but many, including myself, think it's a bit over the top.
I get the idea that it should cover you for all eventualities, as did everyone else who didn't use them but I thought...
What's your thoughts? Mind I'm only talking sliding leger rigs, not sunken paternosters or any rigs where an uptrace is essential.

Never found yourself adding rig tubing, shrink tubing, beads, clips and all manner of bollocks to a rig and eventually come round to the idea that none of it is actually catching you more fish and that the whole process is just an exercise in complicating rigs because you can.
If something hasn't happened in years and years, you can pretty much content yourself that complicating things for the sake of an exception, is a waste of time and effort.

on livebait rigs that need to be ledgered i would always use an uptrace andy
two reasons one being obvious the other being the ring or swivel helps prevent the lead coming back up the line
i cant see a reason not to use an uptrace in that scenario

Would you use a livebait on a sliding leger rig though?

totally agree andy. running rigs with deads - absolutely no need IMO. Never, ever had an issue.

yes on shallow areas 2-3 foot or so at the deepest and to be completley honest i havnt used that rig in at least 8 years
i just use a heavy lead 2ft of hefty wire 10 inche hook trace with a tiny swivel to tie the main line to the lot
