Does anyone know of any Pike Competitions that are held, and are you allowed to spectate???

I know there are some pike competitions held in Scotland.

You probably could spectate but better to try and enter the competition instead as most are fished from boats Smile

I've only been Pike fishing for 18 months, my first 12 months was purely on the lure, I started concentrating on bait fishing late summer of 2010, a lot of my bait fishing as been trial and error, I've never had the privilege of tagging along with another Pike Angler, I don't feel confident enough to enter competitions, my watercraft is very minimal, competitions would be a great way to watch and learn off Anglers who have the experience. I did go to the annual PAC at Kettering, I was a bit disappointed their was nothing for the novice...

Very much a novice myself to pike angling and learning every time through my mistakes when I venture out onto the bank.

Normally if there are other pike anglers about and if I get the vibe they know what they are talking about (as there are lots of pure chancers out there), I generally ask lots of questions.

Some people are happy to divulge once they see you are properly kitted out while others give away nothing in case you hook that "monster" they have been targetting Very Happy

There is a pike fishing competition on the 19th of March at the Lake of Menteith which is a PAC event allowing the use of deadbait with another event on the 12th of November for members of PAAS.

I'm sure there would be no harm in watching and bending a few ears with some of the other anglers that day as sometimes it is better to see techniques in action rather than reading about them all the time so that they all begin to make sense.

like raf1870 said, that is a boat fishing venue bud. just pick a loch and stick to it for a while. you will be rewarded.

i gave you some good tips for a loch i fish. you wont go wrong where i said to go.
i've had some good doubles from their, up to 20lb.

the info i gave you took me 2yrs to find. go on try it Smile

The Angling Times publish pike match dates every week.

Where abouts are you Dom? Perhaps theres someone on here near to you who you can go with.

Andy
I'm over in Shropshire on the welsh border, in the 18 months I've been going out I haven't come across another pike Angler, I inquired about the PAC regional meetings but the closest was in Cheshire, Wales don't have a active PAC meeting at present, my catch rate in the last 6 months as more than trebled when I compare it too my first 12 month, my main source of advice as been from the lads on the forum. I'm not far from the Severn I did try a couple of sessions over the freeze but found it to be a complete different ball game than still water, I have tried to arrange with a couple of the lads on the forum to meet up but we've not been able to do it

These are limited access events, rather than competitions, although prizes are offered for heaviest fish caught etc. They are not the same as the match type affairs popularised in Ireland for instance. In fact, PAC and PAAS positively frown on such match type pike competitons because bag-weights often overtake fish welfare.

The Seven and Wye are probably some of the best pike rivers around...have a gander at all the local match results etc and chat to folk in your local tackle shops and i'm sure you'll get wind of some hotspots etc Smile

just keep at it you will find someone who gose in the end and will lend a hand.
you just need to know really that they know what they are on about.
so long as your catch rate keeps improving that is all that matters.
watching a pike match would be really boring i think loads of blokes watching big red ends all day. If you lived closer i would come and take you out and we could blank together lol,
have you posted on p&p and some of the other forums to see if anyone is near you and would lend a hand. Very Happy

shooting, the missuss

Bloody hell Stubbo, give her a break!

On a separate note, i have fished a spot locally and have been sounded out by 2 guys who were 'just passing' both said nothing comes out of there, strange that we've had a jack, a few follows and a 10lber out of there in 2 visits Surprised

It bugs me that people try to put you off venues and offer little help.
