Baitboats - Fair or Foul
Chew Reservoir has produced two thirties to the same angler in the last 2 weeks. Nothing surprising in that. It is a prolific venue at the moment.
They were both caught from the bank at 150yards by placing baits with a baitboat.
Are baitboats a Fair means of aiding pike fishing or Foul?
Regards

What happened to long distance rigs, ballooning rigs, drifter floats, boats? I can't stand the things. It's a cheats way of putting baits out because anglers are too lazy to overcome the difficulties these ranges present so they take the easy option and use a remote, something that many fisheries are now banning BTW. I see no merit in taking credit for having a device beyond the price range of most other anglers. If the angler didn't have his toy, could he have overcome the problem? If he could have I'd have applauded him for some excellent angling but I see nothing expertise-like in using a remote control boat.

personally despise the things, Andy i cant not discredit them through cost as when its all said aand done rods reels to cope with casting long range cost a fair bit,
what irritates me with them is the base stupidit of anglers using the things they will quite happily put baits in a position where extracting the fish becomes more of a dicey prospect than any other method i can think of
ban em, better still buy an air rifle and see how good your camo gear is when you start sinking the things
Re: Baitboats - Fair or Foul
ill have to admit that i do own a bait boat in fact ive had it for about 12 years and i doute wether i have used it much above 10 times in a fishing situation what i have used it a lot for in the past was prebaiting a swim with chopped sprats and other small baits a ranges upto 40 yds
Re: Baitboats - Fair or Foul
I dont have one and dont intend getting one But i dont have a problem with them it can be a means to getting your bait to parts you just cannot cast to no matter how good you or your tackle is !!
There will always be a place for them no matter what we may think of them like them or hate them they are here to stay

I don't own one and don't have a problem with others using them. Just another string to the bow.

When I turn up with a Huminbird sonar on the the end of my line you'll be spitting then Andy
Noodle, you hit the nail on the head for me mate. They must be used sensibly and not to put fish in danger.
Never had one myself and not likely to either, but that's not to say I despise them because I don't. They are another tool to aid catching fish that can contribute to the overall picture. There have been many other advances over the years that have contributed much more to putting extra fish on the bank, many of which are now part of everyone's armoury. You still need the fish to suck in your bait and the talented angler will make that happen more often that the one with all the gear and no idea.

Re: Baitboats - Fair or Foul
ive never owned one either, and never will. i used to do a lot of carp fishing in the past and would love to have had one, but could not afford one . like others have said, used in a manner that doesn't put fish at risk, then i have no problems with them being used. as for chew valley i think that the use of a bait boat in that situation was fully justified. why drift a bait 150yds when a boat can take it there in 2 mins? fishing has always been about using the latest aids available to us, if not then would we all not be still using bamboo rods, centre pins, and cat gut? and as others have said at the end of the day regardless of what method you use to get a bait out, the fish still does not have to pick it up.
