avoiding crayfish and eels? Empty avoiding crayfish and eels?

i was fishing monday morning on my local river that contains crayfish and eels, i fished on the bottom at first, and got mauled by crayfish so i then used a poped-up bait and then found myself getting mauled by eels lol, is there anyway of avoiding them both?

use a larger bait.... half mackerel for instance Wink
