Hi chris

I might be on the Torne next weekend but my mate was on about going to Thorne canal for a perch session.

I'll let you know nearer the time.

I too can't get my head around using fly tackle for pike. My old schoolmate who runs Stainforth Angling Centre said he tried fly fishing on the canal at Stainforth and pulled a beautiful perch out. Shocked

Just goes to show you never know what is going to happen when you give summat new a try.

What type, length, weight of rod is it?
Most pike-fly rods have a rating of #9/10 with a length of around 9 feet. A floating #9/10 weight line for pike is THICK, strong and heavy. It has to be to turn the humungus flies over and cope with the power.

Incidentally, the most pike I've had in a single session came to fly. I had 19 fish to 12lbs in 3 hours.
