If i had a choice of bait depending on the water, If the water is coloured then id'e use the Smelt , If its clear i think somtimes its best to use the small Trout , Do you go by the conditions as well stubbo ?
Re: dead bait dilema

Must admit the rainy days can be the most productive, Pluss it keeps all those midering arrises away haha
Re: dead bait dilema
I think my first choice would be 5-6" trout followed by smelt....so the same baits but the other way round!

on one water i fish though, they won't touch anything but roach under 4" so it just goes to show how things can vary water to water...which is why i always try to take a good selection with me everytime i go somewhere new.

Re: dead bait dilema
I like lamprey but the only reason it comes in after trout is that it doesn't work everywhere. Never found small brownies not to work.
That was caught on lamprey I think>>>

Re: dead bait dilema
wouldn't be any good if all baits worked on all waters, As you would never have to change what you use, But it is a strange thing when you think about it, If Pike in one water will take Lamphry then you would think it would work on every Pike in any water, But you would be wrong

thats why i said a 6" sardine... its the most productive bait i've found for most of the waters around here
