After yesterdays P.B. Jacket (see Tyram Hall trip) i have caught a Flat fish in Holland miles away from the sea whilst spinning for Pike, i hooked a 4lbs Barbel and immediatly picked up a morrisons carrier bag, you can imagine reeling them both in, the fish moving and the weight of the water in the bag getting dragged upstream, i really thought it was a record breaker, my fishing buddy has not stopped laughing and it was 3 seasons ago. so whats your most unusual catch?

I could write a list but most probably a dead sheep comes to mind first.

Hi Wymo & welcome to the forum, good crowd on here (most of 'em from Donny Laughing )
Chinese Mitten crab doesn't surprise me at all, a strange multi coloured Perch like fish was caught on a local section of the Trent a few weeks back, something like you see in an aquarium. Rolling Eyes

i once had an old sleeping bag while carp fishing at tyram hall, also had 2!! hand bags 1 from delves and 1 from the canal. both stolen and weighted with bricks, such a nice bunch round here. Sad Sad also hooked into a HUGE barge once while night fishing on the Trent but am afraid that after a frantic battle of 5 seconds the ruddy beast spooled me, dam they take some stopping, after that i stepped up my rods and line to 3lbtc and 15lb line. i will be ready for them next time, sneaky buggers lol! lol!

The sleeping bag must have been a tougher critter than Steve's Jacket Laughing I once caught a dead cat near one of the bridges on the Trent, note i said bridges, not barges Laughing Laughing There was an old Humber barge (Brocodale) moored up opposite Nottingham Forest last year, about a 200ton model nearly as long as Trent is wide Rolling Eyes If you hooked that, you wouldnt forget it Very Happy It was scrapped, Gardner diesel removed and sold, how sad Crying or Very sad

oh yes the sleeping bag put a real good account, thought i was going to lose it at 1 point pale was too big to net cheers so was forced to beach her, then had to jump on it to stop it rolling back in lol! as for the barge, well dont know how much it weighed, as i say i lost it Shocked but i didn't have a sling big enough to weigh it in anyway lol!

I'm positive all mitten crabs have to be killed and if they're in the Don, you should report your finding to the EA immediately for advice.

Pulled an open umbrella accross a canal basin once. I was lure fishing at the time and I didn't see her until she was under my feet. I must admit... I was a little worried as to what it was going to be.... affraid

I caught a Garrick (local gamefish) about 8 years ago from the harbour breakwall in Port Elizabeth, South Africa which only had half a bottom jaw!!! The strange thing was that the wound was clearly a very old one and had healed over perfectly already (other than that the fish looked as if it had a huge top overbite). The fish was in pristene condition so data was taken, tag inserted, and once again released to fight another day............. btw, the fishes weight was in the region of 8 Kg's (+-17,6 lbs) if I remember correctly but was never reported as recaptured after liberation.
