another new member hello.
Hi all.
Been a keen on piking since I was a lad. Was away from fishing for a while but last few years got back in to it now the kids are growing up a little. I'm now back in to my pike fishing and remember why I used to go every chance I got as a kid. You just can't beat the buzz of a decent hour or two piking. My lad has also joined in now and we're off with the lures when we can. I learnt my piking years ago, self taught and wondered around all alone making mistakes. Luckily I never managed to do any major harm to a fish but now 15 years later realise that the old ways weren't the best. I'm in the middle of updating my gear and buying more suitable stuff and learning from places such as here. I'm not that technical on fishing to be honest, but I've usually got an eye for where the pike lay up and do well. I'm not in to nicking everyone's best spots or weighing a fish to the ounce to beat a pb by one. I love to catch fish and most of all be out with the rod, often alone at 5am when it's raining before I got to work. It is nice to catch and show off a big one now and again though and I'll no doubt pester you with my catch reports. Best fish was as a teen at 27lb caught on a surface popper (what a take, what a fight!) but sadly no photo of that one. My newer stint at fishing (as a grown up) has produced a best of 22lb on a dead bait mackerel half. My lad, only a few months into piking has managed to bag a 17lb fish on the lures, he's ten! My aim this year is to try and get out more and then try and get a 20lb river pike. Looking forward to that one and all those fish in between.
Have fun fishing people and I look forward to reading the board.
