Bassenthwaite Lake Empty Bassenthwaite Lake

Post  Mickyrob Tue Dec 16, 2008 4:31 pm

Hi im new on this site my name is Mick and im from the sunny seaside town of Morecambe. Im visiting the Northern end of the Lake district in the new year, visiting tea drinking, scone eating, old relatives in the village/town of Bassenthwaite. Im thinking of making an escape and wetting a line on Bassenthwaite Lake. However ive never even seen this water before and just wondered if anyone has been fortunate enough to have tempted a few Pike from this huge water. If so could you please point me in the right direction and perhaps just give me a small clue in to witch areas tend to produce. I work in a well known Morecambe based tackle shop, Gerrys Of Morecambe and can be bribed, as long as i put a fish or two on the bank.Ha ha On a seroius note any information anyone has would be much apreciated as i cant seem to find any information regarding swims etc. Thanks again. Mick

Hi Mick & welcome to the forum Wink

I have fished on Bassenthwaite many moons ago. Not for Pike, though. I best not say too much owing to the venue policy. PM me & i will happily tell you what i know Wink

its hardly worth fishing for them on there nowadays as they seem to be in decline due to environmental factors

to tell you the truth unless your geared for waters like the lakes you will struggle if you usually fish ickle drains with 2.5's and dinky baitrunners you will be lost up there your talking 3 lb plus rods big reels min 50lb braid or 20lb mono

if its lure fishing be ready too loose lots of lures even on 100lb braid
