pike moving to spawn in shallows

New to the site, bt could do with some advice. Fishing a res at the moment, about 20ft - 25ft. Im thinking about moving to the shallows as am thinking they may be getting ready to spawn. Read that water temp is important, anything else i should be aware of. Had a 16 & 15 this wk so question whether a move will be right next weekend??

Not an expert mate, but as far as i know the males hit the shallows first,feb onwards,followed by the females ,all depends on water temps,around me its usually late march april time.

JUST TRYING TO GET MORE INFO ON TRACKING THE BIG GIRLS DOWN, ANY HELP OR DISCUSSION WILL ALSO HELP OTHERS. PRIOR TO THIS WK I HAD 6 BLANKS, ITS HARD FISHING OUT THERE. iTS NOT LIKE CHASING WELL STOCKED CARP VENUES. THE GREAT THING ABOUT PIKE IS THAT THEY ARE HARD TO MOVE AND ARE ALL NATIVE TO THE UK. ITS A SHAME THEY ARE NOT A LITTLE MORE HARDY.

I find the golden time for the Hens to move into the bays is when the water reaches 8 degrees C, they will move in and out checking the possibilities of spawning from now, but they return to the ledges and deeper water until then.

i have almost the same view...... except i think the water needs to STAY over 8 degrees for a week or so for them to really get moving

I think you are right Rob, they stay in the bays when it stays over 8, but they are in for a few days/weeks before they actually spawn. They all like a bit of foreplay LOL and not the lure
