can you guys remember the very first pike you caught and what circumstances that came about you catching it.
I can remember mine like yesterday on the sankey and st Helens canal near the fiddle inth bag pub .
Was fishing for carp and tench at the time .
Cast out a large piece of breadflake tight to the reeds on the opposite bank the float sank out of site straight away .
Thinking a carp had took it on the drop turned out to be a lovely little pike about 2 pound hooked in the scissors
that's when the love affair began for me
went on to catch some good pike out of there think to about 18lb but that was 30 years ago.......

your first ever pike 18lb_410

your first ever pike 21lb_410

October 1988
This was my first Pike, 21lb 4oz,
Funny story,
We had been fishing the specimen lake at Messingham for carp all summer, the owner told us there was some good pike in there, so decided to give it a go.
I had never been piking before, My mate Mark had done quite a bit with his dad and Friends, so he knew what he was doing.
He said to start off an 8lber would be ideal to start on to get used to handling etc.
An hour later this beauty was on the bank.
I literally shit myself and would not go near it.
Mark posed for a photo which I still have, luckly I caught her again a few weeks later, same peg same bait. and this is the photo. Very Happy Very Happy

Still my biggest pike 25 years on Sad Sad Sad

lol! lol! .. first pike.... after reading a few posts on this, and looking at the photo's.lol! lol! .. cracking pike there...by the way..

Having been a keen Trout angler for years , it was an off chance of fishing for Pike, by a few friends.. I went along, and nothing and said never again, so went back to what i knew best at the time..( the river )...

But my first Pike of 7lb 05oz, That 7lb pike from that moment, to the present, i was hooked, the thrill of the catch, the fight, and what really got me to admire the fish, its markings, and of course the tall tales of these monsters.... also the friends i have since made....that was over 20years ago, my god time do fly...

my first pike was over 30 years ago,,, myself and 2 school friends were fishing the river derwent with maggots trying to catch trout to eat on cromford meadows ( a local beauty spot in the area).
we caught loads of river minnows and i got a bit bored and had a walk over to the weeded up cromford canal.  in the gin clear water i spotted a pikes head poking out of the weed.  i hurriedly fetched my two mates across to see it..   at the time my tackle box was a large biscuit tin with the lid tied on with baler twine.  i went back to the river and caught a fat minnow,, then rather gruesomely split it open with my pen knife and tied it tightly to the baler twine from my tin.  i dangled it slowly in front of the pike,, teasing it up and down in front of the pikes nose.  a few seconds later all hell broke loose,, i remember seeing the pikes pectoral fins sweep it forward then the water erupted with a thrashing pike of around 6lb.  i jumped backward in a panic and somehow hoiked it onto the bank.. there it was my first pike without even a hook lol.
ever since that day nothing else does it for me Cool

Fantastic rozzo, mine was, nearly 52 years ago on the Old River Nene at Creek Fen with my late Dad and Mr Wilson, a pal of his who lived on the riverside in town and had a boat on which he occasionally took us fishing.

Dad rigged me up with an old 2 piece cane & solid glass tipped rod, which I think was a kind of lash-up made from parts of two other rods, a pressed metal centre-pin reel of unknown manufacture loaded with heavy nylon, Fishing Gazette style 'bung' and a 'Jardine snap-tackle' with a spiral lead above it. Bait was a live Rudd that he'd caught the previous day and everyone fished the same way as far as I recall.

I remember that both Dad & Mr Wilson had Pike quite early on and the highlight I suppose was that Mr Wilson had a huge Perch on livebait as well. I don't know what it weighed, but it seemed like a real monster to 11 year old me. Anyway, during the morning my bung shot under and into some near bank weeds and I well remember reeling like fury until everything went solid. I also remember Dad & Mr Wilson laughing when I must have 'heaved' rather than what could be described as a 'strike' and ended up slipping and sitting on the bank with a 'Jack', probably no more than a couple of pounds flapping on the grass behind me.

My first pike was from the river windrush, and weighed about 2lbs.

I cause it on a freelined minnow whilst fishing for Perch.

Sadly I don't have a picture of it.

I've always loved to fish since I was a five year old many many moons ago and started off with the old orange handline and star weight with a penick hook and a worm as bait. Was an avid sea angler with a bit of freshwater angling thrown in. As a young teenager I came across a picture of a pike in a book and I thought I would love to fish for pike but for some reason (which I can't for the life of me think why) never got round to it. Anyway ten years ago I started a new job and met a lad who done a bit of pike fishing and immediately informed him that I would love to have a go for them. After spending some of my hard earned on tackle he took me piking and showed me how to go on, I blanked but didn't care and the thought of hooking into my first pike kept me going and it was that thought that give me the pike bug. He gave me a lure and said have a go with that next time your out. I went to a small water and put a dead bait out to no avail, so I had a go at throwing the lure about, which was a fire tiger pattern about 8" long. After casting about half a dozen times I worked the lure down the edge of a reed bed and about half way through the retrieve there was this splash, the line went tight and there was a bend in the rod. My heart was going fifty to the dozen and as I played it all that was going through my mind was my first pike my first pike. I played it to the bank and bent down and soon had my first pike in my grasp, it was only about a pound and half but that small fish got me hooked (excuse the pun) on piking and I soon made my mind up to sell all my sea fishing gear and turn my attention to this magnificent predator which has become my passion. Caught countless pike since and many doubles, my pb standing at 21lb Stillwater and 27lb river, but I'll never forget that first pike......

My first Pike was about 3ib jack on a little meps spinner from a well known reservoir in Derbyshire, but what got me hooked on Pike fishing was the massive pike i could see in a gap in the reeds, I could'n't cast because of the reeds so i just watched, i'd never considered fishing for pike before that, still not caught one that big, probably never will ,but i'll keep trying:)

My first came at a pond that as far as I'm aware has dried up now. The Barnby Dun/Leger Bakery pond off Fordstead Lane.

Must be 30 years ago.

It was a 12 pounder and that stood as my PB until March 2009.

My foster dad hated them, "All teeth and attitude" he used to say.

He wouldn't go anywhere near it and I had to do it all myself.

Thankfully it went back alive and I'm better at handling and unhooking them.

Just don't get the time on the bank that I want.Crying or Very sad
