How do i find my depth
Hello all,
Maybe a daft couple of question's.....But
When Float Fishing what techniques do you all use to plumb a waters depth and also how do check a lake/rivers contours ?
As a course angler i use a light float and a small plumb weight
P.S Nearly on the bank with my Pike fishing just got a few more bits to buy

Good question Bradfordlad.
1) Thread a 2 ounce weight onto your line, followed by a bead, then tie a link swivel on the end.
2) Clip a large float onto the swivel.
3) Cast out, wait for the lead to land, tighten down to the lead.
4) Pay off line from the reel, a foot (30cm) at a time until the float reaches the suface, remembering to count!
5) Repeat and repeat.

Or, float leger as I do and do the following:
Sliding stop knot (or small rubber band if using braid)
small rubber bead
float
sliding bomb (or can use SSG or egg sinkers on your trace)
small rubber bead
trace
Cast out and if your float disappears adjust the sliding knot until you get your float back on the surface.
The lower rubber bead is to protect your knot where you attach your trace from damage by the float/bomb which could weaken your setup and cause lost fish. The upper one is to basically prevent your float going over the stop knot.
