Re: Appropriate Footwear Help
Always found overlapping items of clothing keeps me warmer, eg, pair of socks first, then thermal trousers, then overlap second pair of socks and tucking thermal trousers in, then outer trousers over the top. Same applies to t shirts / jumpers, by overlapping one over the other and tucking them it seems to trap the heat in. Only my opinion though.

Re: Appropriate Footwear Help
I went out and bought some proper 'boot socks' last week.
They've got 'multilevel cushioning with silver technology'
Basically they've got padding in various places and some kind of tin foil sewn into the threads.
I've worn them as a base sock with a thick wool pair over the top and my feet have been like toast the last few days.
fandabbydozy!!!!!

Re: Appropriate Footwear Help
I used to do a fair amount of Fell Running when I was younger, in the 1990's mainly & everything was going towards "Technical Fabrics" Like Pertex (which I never liked) and Goretex etc.... Used to wear breathable fabrics like Duofold Thermax tops etc.. When you are running in a Fell Race, whicking away perspiration is everything, trust me. I could use as much energy in two minutes on a climb as I do in an hour fishing If you stop for any reason with sweat on you, you can soon get cold. I have competed in the Totley Terminator & the Three Peaks race on one occasion, as well as the Calderdale Way Fell Relay.
I'm too old, fat & ugly these days though

i love it for high activity stuff, oh and sleeping in as well

Re: Appropriate Footwear Help
I have always thought of it, perhaps unfairly, as "Poor Man's Goretex"
I have never found it any good at keeping out the wet and always find perspiration collects inside it, too. The only exception is a Buffalo Cycling Jacket I have had for years. Its the one piece pull over type with a "bum flap" that you pull up under your arse & clip together, rather like the hook & eye Gusset on a womans sexy "Teddy" lingerie..
It has a deep pile lining & stays warm even if soaking wet, its windproof but the snag is its purple & yellow & rather "High Vis" for fishing...!

Re: Appropriate Footwear Help
pertex wasnt meant to be waterproof lol just windproof i had one of those gusseted buffalo tops as well
i still use my buffalo sleep system
the pile and pertex softshell with pyramid thermal technology is in my opinion one of the best pieces of outdoor gear ever made

Re: Appropriate Footwear Help
Funnily enough I was wearing my Pertex shelled deep pile lined black Buffalo Mitts today, they are truly ACE
