Bang on 10 o,clock, i thought the brightness might spoil the fishing today,
But while you,ve got a bait in the water as they say...

Nidge, just out of curiosity, what time did you start fishing in that swim and how long before the run did you recast?

Re: Social Experiment - Sunday 21st November
I dont want to throw a spanner in the works, But years ago i was in a fishing club and we could Night fish when the mood took us, I did use the Moon Phases for Piking even then And i always found the day fishing was worse than the Night fishing during these Moon Phases, Also when The moon was Half, The fishing during the day was better than at night, I am looking forward to the results, But it may have to be done over a year broken down into the months,
Re: Social Experiment - Sunday 21st November

Andy, The first bait was in the water for half 9, the run came at 10,
As a rule once the baits in the water i leave it alone, Maybe have a tweek every 15 mins or so just to see if i can stir any action........

OK Nidge. I too have a piking theory, and I am quite serious here, that has nothing to do with the moon. And I am not disparaging the moon theories either. Maybe I should start a different thread.

I agree
But if there is something that I can learn that will imrove my catch rate (5 blanks on the trott) then I'll look at it.
Hey, I'm desperate

kell Today at 5:08 am
I keep seeing the moon rise and moon set times but like i asked before when do you go is it on a full moon or what cannot go fishing till i find out ?
well the simple answer kell is you simply go when you can to be honest
with regards to the actual question kell on when to go i tend to check the moonrise and moonset times and plan my fishing to coincide with them which can be tricky as it can be midday or midnight sometimes when the rise and set times occur and its not all ways possible to go due to work commitments .
but you get predictable monthly moon peaks four days on the back side of the full or new moon this is the times when i like to be on the water for a chance of a bigger fish .
but i have said this is ONLY a part of the bigger picture ,you have to bring into the mix the other weather influences such as high and low pressure ,weather fronts temp ,wind direction ect ect
but at the end of the day its only a theory but we all have a little something that gives us confindent when we go fishing

Re: Social Experiment - Sunday 21st November
Thanks for the input into the thread so far.
The best thing to keep in mind that this is only a theory that has been put forward which may or may not increase your catch rate.
As Tackle Tart mentions there are also other factors which can come into play such - water temperature, light, tidal forces, water clarity, the pH level, water levels, wind ( S to SW ) & surface disturbance, boat traffic and fishing pressure.
Taking Barometric Pressure here is a chart which may be of use. Barometric Pressure (1016 millibar normal level )
Barometric Pressure Chart
It is important, however, to note that the effects of barometric pressure is greater in fresh and shallow waters, than it is in deeper waters.
This is probably due to the fact that the pressure of water is so much greater in deeper waters making the air pressure above it no longer having any significance.
However, please dont get caught up in all these theories as if you did, it probably would be only one day a month that you would see all these ideal conditions come into play.
Just go fishing regardless of these factors as its not always about catching fish but do report back your catches from Sunday up to Thursday .

It doesn't cover pike but then again it covers some of the species they feed on.
