marker float is a cheaper way..
but yes i own one and on a boat its invaluable without it it would be impossible to troll underwater features
imagine trying to follow a contour at 20 feet without one, or trolling cranks over a plateau how would you know when to slow down to get the lures to rise then speed up to make them dive again?

I keep thinking about a marker float for the depth but the old man is more interested on finding features, deep holes and steep banks ect...
Some of the places we go isn't float friendly as the tow can be fast so we ledger but finding them features would be handy
