Planer floats.
Has anybody used this technique? I don't have any pictures or diagrams of this float and trying to explain it and how it works will only confuse, I will try to sort out a photo soonest. Anyone who has used one will know what I'm waffling about!

Re: Planer floats.
Nearly Greg, what you've found there is a planer board (Sometimes called an Otter board) used in America on trolling boats. The effort I'm interested in works on the same principle but is a modified drift vane float, with the vane under the water and set at an angle to catch the flow of a river and "walk" the float to where you want it then hold position. I've seen articles on the web about these before and I'm experimenting with a home made bodge job, just wondering if anyone else is as well?

Re: Planer floats.
andy it has its uses if you fish rivers
imagine being able to hold a bait on position without anchoring it to the deck

Re: Planer floats.
I don't fish rivers for pike much. Most of them are Salmon rivers and the use of deads with trebles isn't likely to be allowed anywhere. Just a few have pike that you can fish for without risk of tangling with ex-SAS bailiffs with an attitude to match. Besides, I have far more productive free stillwaters along the road from most of the better rivers.

Andy, this float can be towed behind a boat on a still water and achieve the same result, plus, its not just for deadbait, you can hang a lure under it.

Re: Planer floats.
Of coarse I use planing floats but only ones with directional control...I invented the BulletBobber and the DualFin.
I am very familiar with all planer boards and didn't like the limited versatility. After 4 years I finally made a video that explains how they work.

I am here to talk about fishing and to contribute to discusions that I have experience in. Anything you want to know about planer boards...I am the man..a young 57 year old man...but I never fished outside the US and very little outside of Ohio. Ohio provides quite a big variety in fishing and weather. And I fished them all in all kinds of weather.
I fish a lot on Lake Erie for Walleye using all types of planers and divers and for deep rough water where my invetions are not the answer. I prefer the planers that run off a mast for deep water. The in-line planers that can handle deep water are too bulky and heavy to reel in and will often knock the fish off.
I also wade or shore fish a lot of Lake Erie tributaries for Stealhead and always use BulletBobbers simply because they reduce the amount of casting and I get and keep my bait where I want longer. The thing about Stealhead is they like a natural drift so I can't catch them when I make the BulletBobber plane sideways but it sure helps set up a drift in the lane I want. A lane is where any float would take if free drifting.
It has been really cold here, below freezing for 10 day and over about 12" of snow on the ground. Getting to old to shovel my drive and turnaround so I am now learning about snow blowers. It sure beats shoveling!
I'd like to post 3 holiday special if it is OK with folks. Then you can call me a real member spammer just like the other manufacturers that post on this site.
All work and no fun makes it spamming. I am having fun with this.
Don't just watch your bobber steer it!

Paul, you have developed an interesting product that I have not seen the like of before. It could be a useful addition to a pikers armoury.
How did you come up with idea?
