Pike on the Fly
Hey folks
This is my first try at tying a frog fly for pike. I'm quite chuffed with the movement but think it probably needs a few adjustments (as noted beneath the video).
Would be interested to hear what people think.
Cheers

I was rather hoping to see a shapely female leg in the bath too lol. The frog action looks good, what is it like to cast once it gets wet because it looks heavy. does it have a single hook or a treble?

Re: Pike on the Fly
It's got a big single on it. Quite heavy and not very aerodynamic, but a good 10wt should punch it out there.
Re: Pike on the Fly
any colour on there mate.( on your frog)..be surprised what a bit of colour will do to it.
Chwarae teg.( fair play), good effect.

It's all olive, with a white belly and shiny dumbbell eyes. That's a good shout though mate. I might stick a red trigger point in the next attempt. Diolch.

Just realised that this video plays in the page so you can't read what I wrote underneath it on YouTube.
I wrote this.......
This is the first try prototype. Just trying to work out the weights and mechanics of it. I reckon if I make the head a bit lighter in weight, rake the legs back at a steeper angle and articulate the knees a bit......

Yes, the eye's seem a little large, if you down size the eye's i think you'l have better movement again..
And you know a little Welsh, even better. Or did you goggle it.

Re: Pike on the Fly
At least a 9wt mate, probably best with a 10wt. It's not just for playing the pike, some of the flies are massive and need some punching out. I've tried casting them with my 7wt and they just don't go anywhere. Apart from that, you need a good, supple wire trace. Some people suggest shock leader but from what I've read and heard a trace is best.
I'm rearing to go, just need to save up for a 10wt rod and line
Look it up on Youtube, there's some cracking videos of monsters on the fly.
