More Questions...........
Fishing a 11 ft 1,75 lb pike stick with a 3500 baitrunner :
What do you guys spool your baitrunners with for dead/live baiting???
Also, what breaking strain would you guys reccomend???

Re: Braid or Mono for Baitrunner???
I have two Daiwa Twilight Barbel Rods at that TC, as Noodle says, more an Avon or Specimen Barbel / Tench weight. Bear in mind you are casting maybe 6oz+ when deadbaiting, a 2.5 or 3.0 TC sounds better. It would have a very 'sporting' feel when playing a 10lb+ Pike on a 1.75lb, thats for sure...

Re: Braid or Mono for Baitrunner???
i agree about the sporting feel.... but what about playing a 20lber on a rod that light?? i think it would probably be a struggle to control the fish.
best go for something heavier as suggested mate

Re: Braid or Mono for Baitrunner???
I used to follow the crowds and just spool up with 15lb mono but after reading some posts on another forum I decided braid was the way to go.
I'm using 50lb power pro and its the best move I've ever made!
It's the same thickness as 12lb mono but casts better and there's no snags I can't get out of, which means I don't end up loosing rigs which Pike may pick them up later and killing themselves on!
My hooks always bend out before I get a break.

Re: Braid or Mono for Baitrunner???
I have one spool loaded with 15lb mono (forget the name for now) and one with 40lb Power Pro braid.
Mick Brown recommends using mono for close in work and braid for medium/long range.

Re: Braid or Mono for Baitrunner???
Yeah, braid definitely gives you an avantage fishing at range as there is no stretch, which gives better hook up rates.
And I can see the sense using mono close in (more stretch) when Pike usually make their last bid for freedom!

Re: Braid or Mono for Baitrunner???
With bazz teaching me on bait fishing..............I have learnt that Mono is ideal for close range fishing and that braided mainline id good for a more distance cast and with lures.....That all i can really say......

there is some degree of stretch in braid, but no where near as much as mono.
