Trent Piker wrote:I eventually had a good result today, got down to The Trent and discovered I had taken 2 halves of different rods with me ??? (I was only fishing 1 rod to keep light and mobile) Finally got fishing and had 2 great fish, the best one going to 17lb+ stripping line like it was a carp. I think I was the only angler on the river today, no one else brave/mad enough! Great!
Pics on my blog
Despite the recent high muddy water & all the recent Snow (well, 1" of it ) the Trent looked back to normal today. Didn't see anybody fishing, well done Daz

Re: Anybody catching?
Try filling a feeder with cotton wool and then soak it in fish oil and use that in place of your weight. Cheap and it works a treat. Wolfie (Brian) does much the same thing but he uses chopped fish in his feeders.

Re: Anybody catching?
Went on the Trent for the day. River looked good & normal height & colour. 2 good runs & a few false runs such as debris hitting line. Didn't manage to hook up with anything. Found the river fast where i was fishing, 6oz of lead to pin baits down.

Re: Anybody catching?
I had a full weekend on the bank (still thawing out!) but not a single run all weekend. I knew i wouldn't get through a season without a blank
Tried every bait i could get my hands on, every method i could think of but not a sign of even a single fish. It was the same story for everyone on the lake i was on...bring on a rise in temperature. Still, it wasn't an unpleasant weekend - lots of wildlife to watch (kingfishers, barn owls, wrens and woodpeckers to name a few) and a good giggle with some of the other anglers on the lake. The lake i first wanted to fish was frozen solid all weekend so i had to fish one a few miles away - much to the disgust of my missus who came out to see me on Sun with some homemade soup (bless her!) only to find out i wasn't where i said i would be and no phone reception either - so i'm in the dog house for that

Fishing?...oh aye. I bet you were wearing your 'other pair of slippers' down the road at 'Big Sandra's' with your feet up in front of the telly. You do realise your wife is coming fishing with you, just to see how much 'fishing' you actually do for the next 6 months.....
Sounds like a reason to keep an eye on Jeremy Kyle from now on...lol.

Wymo, it might not be massive but its good enough mate well done, i am hoping to get out this weekend, thats if my hand heals up, opening a tin of dog food on Saturday, just nicked my index finger on my right hand, Sunday it was swollen up like a footbal and sore as anything i have experienced, got a very bad infection, on the mend now though, although it could be sometime before i can wash upo again lol.

If you like micro runts, you should quickly become a fan of the small to medium Salmo Sliders. I suggest the 'Real Roach' or the 'Shiner' pattern. The action is similar and working them is much the same. I just think the smaller sliders have the edge but you're not wrong. Runts are good wee lures.
