Spinning for Pike - Your Favourite Lure
Hi
What are your favourite lures for catching pike?
Not jerk baits but good old fashioned cast and retrieve - crankbaits and spinnerbaits and their ilk.
Going to go spinning and want to expand on my trusty floating yellow plug .
My rod is designed to cast lures from 40g (1.4oz) up to 100g (3.5oz) if that is going to influence peoples thoughts.
Personally I prefer slightly lighter lures but I am willing to experiment.
Thanks

Re: Spinning for Pike - Your Favourite Lure
yes I'v got to agree the Rublex Ondex is a cracking cheap spinner, I was out last week I took four jacks, 2 good perch and I must of had at least four follows, i find the perch can sometimes foul hook, I'v even had perch no bigger then the number 5 I use, mepps also do a spinner very similar, the Mepps winner, but I read recently or watched on dvd, it could of been Des Taylor he says over 60% of his pike caught are on a sink and draw method it's not a method I use but I will giv it a real good go sometime.... sink and draw as got to be the oldest form of lure fishing, or would that come under dead baiting catogrie????

Re: Spinning for Pike - Your Favourite Lure
are you after recoendations for that weight range?
if so for cranks then its
magnum bomber long a's
six inch grandmas
halco sorcerers
storm shallow macs
spinners and spinner baits use the lightest models with two ounce heads
mm's from chicos just
as for spinners i cant remember what mine are im sure they came from fishing pool
any reason not to use jerk style baits?

Re: Spinning for Pike - Your Favourite Lure
size 5 ondex (silver for clear water, brass for coloured water)
luhr jenssen krokodile spoon
both are really great cast and retrieve lures that i always take with me, and on more difficult days the ondex has saved me from many a blank
