Where to find pike that will take a lure

Hi all am looking for some places to fish arôund the Liverpool area and maybe travel to st Helen's but have no idea of where to go I normally go the canal on soft shads and spinners but keep getting bumps and no big takes - am ideally trying to target perch but any pike would be a bonus if you could pm me any locations or advice it will be greatly appreciated thanks
