Re: Fly fishing
the tail is fanned out at the back and all my flys are doing that. But how do you make then taper,I am trying to make the perch (Perca fluviatilis ) fry (muddler) pattern just to avoid confusion.sorry about the latin it must be the old etonion coming out ?.
anyway struggling to get it to taper i am using deer hair but as soon as the thread is locked down it just bunches up which is great for the head but no good for the body.

Re: Fly fishing
Hold hair down tight until you finish whipping it down, that should keep it as you require.

Re: Fly fishing
Cheers for the lesson yesterday jeff. Paddy pike i see what you meen about wearing a hat and glasses ? .
Here are some photos of my first attempt at the muddler pattern which i think will slaughter perch (MY OPINION) and i do appologise if it looks like a blue finned tuna to some but i am not an optician and cannot help you ?.
Will now try another after seeing how flies get beat up when been cast. If any one spots any small perch fry patterns would love to see them but handy if the recipe and instructions are with them as i have seen some great looking ones but no idea how they were tyed which is no good to me lol.

try lambs tails, deer hair will always spread. unless your useing the finer tips of the hair. dyed fox tails good to, you can thin it out, if you know what i'm saying.
allways use a dab of varnish with hair tho, locks it in. happy tying.

Looking good Kell Just need a full face helmet now And thats for me while im watching you cast
Re: Fly fishing
Looks the part for me Kell, I bet you get Perch Or Pike with it, And yes Safety first, Allways look behind you before you start to cast, Not so much for trees as you will pick somwhere open when you first start, But more for people walking that dont understand what you are doing, Good luck with it all Kell, But remember how your doing now because in a few monthes people will be asking you for your oppinion on a mass of things to do with fly fishingadie1200 wrote:Looking good Kell Just need a full face helmet now And thats for me while im watching you cast
