Andy new bait company on the scene called Gadda baits, they are just in the process of setting their website up, in the meantime contact Leigh on 07707 949407 for anything you need.
Not the cheapest but the quality is superb compared to what is out there.
All the best

Cheers Greg
I found a bit of info on the lamprey HERE
It mentions the following...
Due to declining numbers, the river lamprey is now given some protection. It is listed
in Annexes I(ia) and V(a) of the EU Habitats and Species Directive as a species of
community interest, whose conservation requires the designation of Special Areas of
Conservation, and in Appendix III of the Bern Convention, which permits some
exploitation of its population. It is a Species of Conservation Concern in the UK
Biodiversity Action Plan. There is no Red Data Book for fish in Great Britain, nor is
this species listed in the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act, but the species is
considered to be vulnerable.
I'd need ssome help on figuring out what that means though
Andy

Looks alright to me Andy. You go mad adding more examples of potential baits but for the novice, it gives them the right idea.

hi andy.... 1 sea bait i use is missing from the list.... whiting!! i've used them for as long as i can remember and on waters where the pike have seen just about everything else they can be devastating!
i've never seen them in tackle shops but i beach fish for cod and get alot of whiting as a bi-product, so instead of putting them back i just take them home and bung them in the freezer

Re: Essential Pike Dead Baits
I found a company that sells little mackerel 5-6" and they cast very well indeed. I had a scrapper 14.5 lb pike from Naseby at the weekend. Only problem now is I want to cast them even further than the 40 yds (10 rods lenghts) im getting at the moment. I use a simple running rig with the lead sliding on the mainline, would a change in set up help do you think?

what size leads are you using? i use a running set up with a 1oz to 1 1/2oz lead and i can comfortably hit 70-80 yards with the likes of mackerel and herring (small whole or halfs)........ if i try using 2oz+ then the distance i hit becomes less, i think this is because the weight of the bait has to fight more against the weight of the lead and they hinder each other during the cast, whereas when using the lighter lead the bait leads the rig and lead out in flight.

Re: Essential Pike Dead Baits
Thanks for the replies so far. I like the look of those pva ties for helping keep the bait on, my issue isnt really with keeping the bait attached its more to do with distance, but that said with greater distance comes more force so using the ties would be an advantage. I use a 2oz casting lead and am currently toying with putting the whole lot inside an oiled up pva bag, i guess the resistance of the bag is cutting down my distance, I will give a lighter lead a try, I know I can wack out a boilie further with a suitable sized lead better than I can with a big lead. Perhaps with the added confidence of the cable ties and a smaller lead that wont overtake the bait I will compress the rod better. will give both a try and report back.

Re: Essential Pike Dead Baits
give the lighter lead a go without the tie as well as with mate.... it doesnt matter if the lead flies back up the line a bit during the cast as long as your bite indication is good anyway, and i have a feeling that using the tie will cut distance down a bit, although i cant say for certain because i've never had the need to try it.

tying the bait to the hooks with pva is a good idea
