Hello all
Hello to all,
Just found the site, very nice, and all about PIKE, which we all here obviously love...
I'm 31 from Hertfordshire, member of Ware AC and love nothing more than exploring the miles upon miles of the River Lea that surround
me. I do get on pits and lakes from time to time of course, especially when the river is coloured chocolate brown from all the rain as it has of late...
I love pike, and perch, predator fisherman if one needs a title...
Although I've had loads of pike in some 20 years my PB is only 11lb, I've just never hooked a bigger fish, although the LEA is not renowned for its monsters...
Target, my first 20... (or any new PB)
Cheers,
Jeff

Re: Newbies....come and say hello
Cheers again Bazz,
I'm really keen to explore the potential of my local River Lea, are there any river-pike buffs on here, or even better someone who knows the Lea?

I know the feeling mate
Been fishing since I was a nipper, specifically targeted pike for a couple of seasons and my personal best is a (guesstimated) 12lber. I unintentionally caught that in my teens as I reeled a small roach in whilst maggot drowning.
I honestly don't mind and don't go out in the hope that I will land a PB. I go out to enjoy myself. It doesn't bother me if I land a jack either. They all get the same level of respect from me and as they swim off after returning them , I always think to myself "see you later matey". And if I do, it will hopefully be a year or two down the line still fit, healthy and strong and putting up a good scrap.
So don't you go worrying about your PB being low compared to other peoples, cos I never do.

hi everyone
thanks for the warm welcome i've had from everyone in my first 24hrs since i joined this site, my names rob and i live in hull, east yorkshire
i've been fishing since i was 6 yrs old and in that 22 years time i've had many wonderful and varied angling experiences, from catching roach and perch as a kid, then catching cod and ling on the boat off scarborough in my early teens, then when my uncle moved back this way for a few years he took me piking at midnight in freezing cold gale force winds with plug rods on pickering park after i'd looked after his kids for the evening where i caught my first pike (a 2 1/2lb jack) and i promptly caught the pike "bug".... this hasnt boiled down ever since lol.
i started catching some leviathans when i was 15 (early 1996), starting with a 26lb 4oz pike out of a drain no wider than my living room in january, shortly followed (march 20th 1996 if memory serves correctly) by the fish which echoes most in memory... from a local gravel pit... 4ft long... and a full 12" across its back.... WEIGHING 35LB 15OZ and according to angling times the "unofficial" junior record as they had never heard of a junior angler catching a heavier pike in any previous instance (although that bit wasnt actually published, they told me when they called to interview me about the capture).
almost 1 year and several more 20's later i made a return to the same pit with my father for an afternoons deadbaiting, we were intending to fish the other end of the pit but as i was passing a peg close to the car park i suddenly got an irresistible urge to fish that peg, 2hrs later i was rewarded by a 5lb jack..... then 1/2 hr after that i had another run......
as i wound down and lifted into the fish i knew from what i could feel that i was into another biggie, and when i eventually landed it i couldnt believe my eyes. it was the SAME pike i'd captured a year earlier at 35lb 15oz... only this time it weighed 37lb 3oz and set a new pb, which has stood to this day.
from there my fishing career was pushed back slightly in favour of women, booze etc so i only now go no more than once in a fortnight, although i still have a habit of clashing with some formidable fish and hope to clash with alot more in the future, and who knows, maybe one day i might even set a new pb but i have serious doubts as that fish was the fish of a lifetime for me.... twice over lol
