Last session of the season
Well I decided to have one more fishing trip to end my Pike fishing season, as I'll be putting my Pike tackle away end of March and dusting down my float and feeder rods for some general coarse fishing.
I decide to visit a venue I hadn't pike fished before but had noticed a few fish had been coming out over the last few weeks as I'd seen them photographed in the Angling Times.
This lake has a track going all the way round the outside so I could quite easily travel light and just bring my car with me as I made my way round.
After 3 hours and not a single pike in sight I decided to move pegs yet again. But as I pulled my line through my rod rings to hook a treble on to one of my butt rings to aid walking with the rods, unbeknown to me my braid got snagged around the rod tip and without looking I gave it a yank. (looking back god knows why!) SNAP!!!
The tip of my rod snapped off.
I was lost for words! I was gutted! I just stood there in shock!
I'd now had enough. It was raining. I hadn't had a single run and now I'd broken a rod.
I decided to fish one more peg then I was off home ASAP.
The time flew by and I was soon packing up my gear and getting ready for home.
However on getting in the car to start it, it wouldn't!
The battery was flat which was totally my fault as I'd been opening and closing the boot and doors all day as I worked my way around the lake. Duh!
I called out Green Flag which they said would be an hour but turned out to be and hour and 40 minutes as no one knew how to get to the chuffin lake!
They finally got me on the road home with no fish, wet from the rain, a broken rod and a battery in need of some TLC.
I think that was the worst fishing trip I've ever had!
I'm quite glad now to be putting my Pike gear away and spending some time catching Roach, Bream and Tench.
Lets hope next winters Pike fishing goes better.

Not sure?
About 4" has broken off with the end eye still attached.
Anyone know if tackle shops do this kind of thing or is it a DIY job?

Re: Last session of the season
You might be able to repair the tip, By having it cut back and a new eye fitted

A tip eye can usually be removed by warming the adhesive and then refitted to the remaining rod section.
That trip was definitely one to forget. Here's hoping next winter is better.

Well... that's one way to catch 'em
Re: Last session of the season
Still not sure what to do with my rods?
1. repair the broken rod but then I'd have one 12ft rod and one 11ft 6" rod
2. chop 4" off the other rod so I'd have two 11ft 6" rods
3. buy a new rod to replace the broken rod
4. buy a new pair of rods
decisions, decisions, decisions

Re: Last session of the season
must admit i would like them both the same size, not only that but i would be worried the strength of the rod might be compramised,

The other thing is does it change the test curve?

Re: Last session of the season
Now theres a thing, The test curve is from the butt to the tip, I think i would have to try it out with a breeze block, Normaly if the rod can lift a breeze block then its a goodun,

The test curve will be very slightly increased but you won't notice it. I'd only cut the other one down if I was a mega tackle tart
And anyone who's seen my gear....well

So your saying the test curve will increase if the rod is a few inches shorter Might turn my 12"s into 11" 6's

Get down to chapmans tomorrow for the opening of their bargain weekend mate if you can - they have 1 set (but only 1 on this offer) of 3 Greys Prodigy (SX i think) on offer for £150
They make really good pike rods and for that price they are a steal (think they retail for anout £120 each normally.
See half way down page:

I Know The Feeling
And there's me thinking it was only me that had days like that, faired a bit better than you on the last day with 8 fish but on the Saturday absolute disaster - wheel bearing packed up on boat trailer, lost 4 lures value of around £55.00 and managed to only boat one very, very small "Jack" - I'm glad it's over and looking forward to the new season in June - warm, sunny weather and loads of Pike - but then again!!!!

I phoned Thursday and they said they had plenty in but on a first come first serve basis on the Friday only.
Unfortunately I was working nights last night so couldn't get down first thing but cut short my sleep and phoned before lunch.
All gone!! Gutted!!

Re: Last session of the season
It's a Nash Dean Macey carp rod. Nothing outstanding but one of a pair. It's a bit like having a pair of shoes and loosing the laces out of one of them!
I've already contacted Nash to see if they had any spare tip sections but no luck.
However they have put me onto a tackle shop who carried a large stock.
The funny thing is I'm now starting to fancy buying a new set of rods! Lol !
