Re: Fly fishing
BASIC FLIES
colour.... personal choice, bright ones can be seen if they are coming back at you
size.... various to suit conditions and waters
materials.....anything that doe not absorbe water too easly
tarty bits.....just to make them look pritty, allthough i do like big eyesor red flash on them as a target
most of all its the saticfaction of tying something you created/copied to catch pike , be it the look or movment that does it. as long as it works for you who has the right to tell you different.
iv'e only been flyfishing for pike for 25 year so my expertize is limited.

Re: Fly fishing
I have been catching up on this thread, And i have also made some right old bits up and turned out some Fly's that people would not look twice at, In fact i have tried all sorts of rubbishy ones ive made and had some strange results, If its moving on the water then i think a preditor knows its job, Never worry about what others think, Just make them, Try them, And if they catch then thats a good job well done, esoxjeff wrote:BASIC FLIES

When i go walking the rivers or where ever i am, I am allways on the lookout for feathers that have been shed by any birds at all, Be surprised how many you can find on a walk, I ended up last year with a carryer bag full, kell wrote:just ordered two bucktails red and white lol

I also have a friend the other side of Birmingham who breeds Golden Pheasant, Ostrich, And Parots, So when they start losing the feathers they save them for me, Nice one innit, esoxjeff wrote:there you go Kell go get some feathers, crows and swans dont count.paddy pike wrote:When i go walking the rivers or where ever i am, I am allways on the lookout for feathers that have been shed by any birds at all, Be surprised how many you can find on a walk, I ended up last year with a carryer bag full, kell wrote:just ordered two bucktails red and white lol

home made pike flys
having been pike fishing on the fly for about two years i think its a good idea in making your own flys having made my own and caught on them some of them are outragous looking things but i think thats the learning process with fly fishing you go through all the usual pike patterns .Then you find the one that works for you .I like the zonker type rabbit skin think it pulsates in the water when you twitch it along but can be a bit heavy when wet but you need the right gear to cast it .Some good flys there kell keep it up mate.

Re: Fly fishing
Only problems with them is they are all you can see And they will quickly fill the site up and slowing it down which means us mods will have to start cleaning it up
Re: Fly fishing
Hi Adie, Is it a band width thing, And are we ok just using the very small stuff like this
If not we will stop using them and just use the ones on the display,

Re: Fly fishing
Yes its ok using small one its just the large ones that take up a lot of space if you put a large one on as a signiture it will be on every post you have put on the site
