deadbait casting clips
Do any of you lads use Deadbait casting clips ? I bought some recently but after looking at all the messing about to set them up, i cant be bothered !!
I get a good hold with just the Trebles in the bait for casting, even when using biggish baits. I dont have the hooks pull from the baits on the cast either, so cant now see the point of them.
What do you lot think about them ? Another gimmick to get us to part with our dosh ?? Answers on a postcard please !!!!!!

Re: deadbait casting clips
The main purpose is to be able to very lightly hook baits with tough skin like mackrel, lamprey or eel section without them flying off on the cast.we used to make our own with a large single hook snipped off at the point.
There used to be a rig involving 2 loops of line and an Alka Seltzer tablet wich did work(but that was before PVA string was available).

Re: deadbait casting clips
dont have a problem with casting the tuff skinned fish its the softer baits really that benifit this method ie deans.....sardines herrings spratts ... also good for live baiting due to the very light hooking method hang on im giving all me secrets away here.........hurricane wrote:The main purpose is to be able to very lightly hook baits with tough skin like mackrel, lamprey or eel section without them flying off on the cast.we used to make our own with a large single hook snipped off at the point.

Re: deadbait casting clips
Of course it works on any bait but the main purpose is so that tough skinned baits need only to be "nicked" through the skin allowing the hooks to be pulled home without hinderance on the strike.with soft baits(fresh) a couple of turns of bait elastic will keep them on during the cast and not hinder on the strike when the hook pulls through the bait on the strike.stubbo wrote:dont have a problem with casting the tuff skinned fish its the softer baits really that benifit this method ie deans.....sardines herrings spratts ... also good for live baiting due to the very light hooking method hang on im giving all me secrets away here.........hurricane wrote:The main purpose is to be able to very lightly hook baits with tough skin like mackrel, lamprey or eel section without them flying off on the cast.we used to make our own with a large single hook snipped off at the point.

Re: deadbait casting clips
have you guys tried a hair rig then your standard trace sett up?you thread the hair threw the bait then hook as normal so if your hooks are loose or off then when the pike takes the fish you still have the hair threw the fish with the hooks still there if you know what i mean?

Prices From: £1.75
PVA CABLE TIES: PVA CABLE TIES 10PK - £1.75PVA CABLE TIES 50PK - £8.00PVA CABLE TIES 100PK - £14.50
Quantity:
PVA CABLE TIES
NEW.....NEW.....NEW.....
JUST ARRIVED!
Water Soluble Cable Ties.
Great for securing baits for distance casting, or lightly hooking baits for an instant strike.
Perfect for using on solid frozen baits like Smelt / Mackeral etc.
Saves the bait flying off on the initial cast.
Can be used double for bigger baits. Also used for securing PVA bags of prebait. Drifting soft baits like Herring etc can be attached using PVA Cable Ties
They start to loose their strength within 10 minutes and will release bait as soon as it moves. Average time during winter is around 10-15 minutes, but once they are in contact with the water they start to soften so striking your hooks out of the bait is no problem at all. Leaving your bait with the hooks in.
How many Smelts have been sent to the horizon as your hooks come adrift.
Could also be used instead of the power gum rig for lightly hooking baits.
No need to bury your hooks into the tail root and aids for easy striking.
Does away with conventional methods of bait attachments.
Possibilities are endless:
Available in 10 / 50 / 100 pks
