Re: Favourite Lures
I think i would try mixing it first as if its too strong it may put the pike off !!
Just add a bit at a time until you think its about right

are you having us on with the pernod. i've done it with strawberry and that worked..
Not at all. Pernod stinks of aniseed right and some Irish fellers (not tree fellers...that's another joke) use Whiskey on Kippers for pike bait, because it helps to disperse the smell. Alcohol disperses oil too, so by using Pernod, you could have the best of both worlds. You'd have the aniseed odour and you'd also have a component for dispersing oils from your bait.
I'd try it and I'm not kidding.

But could you resist 'swagging' it all whilst fishing..? Bazz certainly could.
Take Adie1200 with you..

Re: Favourite Lures
Hahaha Everyone thinks i'm nuts {They could be right} But somtimes i leave different dead baits to soak in dark rum for a few days in the fridge, Then drain them off and freeze them, And they seem to thaw out quicker when you need them for fishing, tootall wrote:just seen this, and i use pernod soaked sweetcorn for some of my carping and tenching - they love it so i guess it would work fine for pike too
Best lures
Try , E bay , There is a lure maker from scotland who makes his own , All hand built spinners , Mepps style
They are very good & 10 times better than shop bought ones , They retail for about 1£ per lure Try this link , copy & paste it to your browser

Re: Favourite Lures
I'm just about to get back into it - but I can't believe noone has mentioned ABU Reflex.
As a kid I watched my Dad clean up on the Middle Level at Magdalene in about 1980 - clocking up 5 or 6 high teens monsters in a single week using them. It then became an annual holiday - tried loads of other lures with no luck.
Having not fished for a couple of years at the beginning of the 90s, my mate's Dad took me to the Witham at Bardney. I took the trusty bag of Reflex - my mate, his Dad and his Dad's mates all had a variety of bait and lures. It took me about 10 minutes to nobble a Jack and had fun all day, notching up 5 or 6. By the end of the day they were begging me to sell them to them.
I haven't fished for nearly 20 years, but I'll be heading down the Witham on Tuesday for a nostalgia trip. I'll be the one with the antique Mitchell 300 and the pocket full of Reflex. Can't wait!

Re: Favourite Lures
My favorite lures for pike fishing :
1 - Light weight spoons - you can drag them slowly through the water . Best lures for cold water when the pike doesn't have too much energy to follow the lure.
2 - Big spinners slowly dragged through the water.
3 - Slider type lures :
4 - Jointed floating crankbaits (Light blue is the color I trust for the crankbaits )
5 Top water lures :
With this type of lures I caught most of my pikes

Re: Favourite Lures
Hi,
As I see most of lures are hard type - raps or spinners, also jerk. Do you usually cast from the bank or do trolling from boat?
Also, jelly type of lures, looks like not popular here... Is there a reason why?
