Last of my seven sessions today, managed two jacks from two takes, unlike yesterday when I had two takes for no fish. I feel my hook-up rate or catch rate is quite poor, I've had 16 takes this week and landed 8 fish, 1 in 2? Is this shockingly bad? I do think there are a lot of jacks though, the biggest of my 8 fish went about 12, one about 8 today and the rest under six, either that or all the ones I miss/lose are good fish

I have days like that too Leon where you miss 5 runs and the next day you change nothing and hit all of them have you thought of buying the waterwolf camera and actually see what size fish your missing Its heartbreaking when you see a real lump miss a strike though so be warned

It's my experience if u r on jacks move
They are a favourite on big girls menu
So an ubundance of them means a lack of big ones
On other hand low population waters house big girls
But that's one man's opinion

I agree Dave, jacks can concentrate together especially over the next month or so, although there's always contradictions to the rule especially in pike fishing😀 . Andy , I bought a water wolf this time last year , I found the footage amazing , I saw amongst others yours and Stubbos footage of how they attack your bait or NOT in a lot of cases. I think they are great for loads of research and that, contours , state of bottom , what fish have been about etc . . . . Then as a contradiction , I saved it and never opened it . Gave it my son for Xmas 😀 For some reason , I don't like the underwater view of the fight , the twist and turns , it put me right off. I don't know wether I'm trying to kid myself or what 😳

Leon I spoke to a few lads on here and elsewhere , because I've just had a very low , catch to run rate aswell, the general feeling is that keep doing what you know that works and the fish will be on the bank again soon !

Thanks for the replies and encouraging words. I figured that they may be grouping up prior to spawning and figured if the smaller males are there now then surely the bigger females won't be too far behind them? Or have I got this all wrong?

how many lads out there at this moment thinking about hanging there pike rods up , as you are all aware the temps are rising and the fish are getting a bit twitchey the jacks and big girls will be getting ready for a bit of lovin......probably best to let them get on with it in peace...

Nowhere near ready over here Stubbo. waters 4degrees and a cold week forecast. it will be 3 or 4 weeks before they get jiggy lol.

The cameras are fantastic Craig but do drive your head mental lol. If I lose mine or it breaks i wont replace it, just another toy

i fished a pike match on sunday and blanked 18 people fished and only 2 caught 9 fish between them from adjoining pegs. this was on a 400 yds stretch of canal, talk about shoaled up

Now that's where one of them cameras would come in handy if you had laptop at side of you 😀.

I think its too early too.they are hard to locate though at the moment.we had a pike match last week on a large lake and no one had a run!😐

that's what I mean the pike are starting to shoal up . more so the jacks, there has been a change in the feeding habits and the finicky takes

and the pike are not where you expect them to be , don't forget the temps on average have been higher earlier on in the year, so me thinks the pike are heading into shallow water will have get the sounder out and have a look in the shallow areas.

He isnt a forum member but he is catching some beautiful pike with me this week.  He usually gets a 20 every time he comes and is getting close   3 days left so fingers crossed

He loves it mate, very passionate Piker lol. He lives in Norfolk so comes over here piking because he loves the solitude and scenery too, 17lb 9oz so great guess Craig

Well I am happy to say that i have officially broken the 25lb+ barrier with a  26lb 12oz beauty,and its only taken me 14 years and thousands of rod hours    lol. Happy fisherman ☺☺☺☺. I  had another run an hour or two later and another 20 came to the party at 21lb 4oz.  

Proper fish those two. What dreams are made of . Well done mate , very well deserved. 🎣🍺😀

I was out on Friday again and yet again I caught two small sixes, obviously all the big girls in my area have gone on their holidays to Ireland lol

fantastic catches well done. i love the bite mark on the "small" one where it was nearly dinner many years ago lol

I have been very ill this last few weeks but going to try a few hours fishing tomorrow.
