I fished here on Friday (6/10/17) slightly further down to your right, had 3 Jacks up to 8Lbs 2oz. There is still the odd big fish in here but its a pale shadow of it's past glories.
I'm a member of the club with the fishing rights, so PM me if you want to compare notes

glory days long gone
yes
dave
you are right pal ,
its gone down hill a bit , think it was getting poached by Easterns, in fact I know it and watched it happen one day on there , sad but true
if I won the lottery I would buy that place and fill it with trout for the pike to eat and grow huge........

I am not a tackle tart or anything but there not worth buying pal there just not up to the job
don't get me wrong pal they will catch you pike just like the next man , normally cheap reels have cheap inferior parts ie plastic interior cogs bale arm problems , bought that done that , don't bother pal
for an extra 20 squid invest in a shimano or fox type bait runners , or look at the big pit reels on Glasgow angling web
there are quite reliable reels , I have 3 shimano bait runners paid 44 squid each for the 3 had them about 6 years no probs as of yet.

Re: Anybody Catching part one
Had a few hours on a club water today, I only had the 1 run which resulted in this skinny looking Jack of about 6Lbs, despite moving swims a couple of times and thrashing the water with a lure.

did you have a good look down its throat? sometimes they will have an obstruction, possibly wire trace with trebles but mostly bits of dead waterfowl etc that stops them being able to swallow properly. Or it might just not have managed to catch any food for a while too.

Hi Matt
It’s throat was clear, the basic problem on there at the moment is a lack of bait fish hence some looking a bit thin.

Re: Anybody Catching part one
Hi guys, after a lay off of over three years I decided to get the bait rods out again,I've given all my time to lure angling the last three years or so.I needed to dust off the cobwebs and dead spiders from the rods and get up to date and spool the baitrunners with braid, always used 15lb mono in the past.
I had three hours after work on Tuesday and was well pleased with four jacks two of them looking close to ten pounds. So I found time again on Thursday afternoon a bit further upstream for another go,it didn't look good being so clear and started wishing I'd brought the lure rod.Sat for two hours watching the wildlife and stationary floats, and then the first run made me think I'd a twenty on,a very large head convinced me I'd a very good fish, but an undernourished 17lb 8oz was the result.
Immediately after casting out another run and a dogged fight resulted in a 21lb 12oz lump,a good fat fish this one, obviously she beats her mate to the prey most times😄.
So I've really got the bug now,and will have to put work off again next week for a dabble😊.

That's interesting. I would be tempted to prebait a few areas with whitebait and revisit them in rotation.

Great fish there Steve. As you say, the head on that 17lb fish is from something much larger! The pectoral fins are also tiny.
I'm out tomorrow at the local quarry for the first pike session of the winter. It's not a great venue, but it's a stop gap until the commercial opens the doors for pike in November.

do i blank or go for an easy fish
anyone have this dilemma , you get fed up of fishing venues that contain very big pike , but are very few and far between hence the blanks that come with it , Or do you fish a runs water where you are nearly guaranteed a few pike . I am sat here now very indecisive whether to go blanking or catching if you know what I mean , could do with a run really as I started the season off with a blank

Yes it was an odd looking fish,it's strange to catch 17lber and think that should have been heavier, certainly not complaining though.
Best of luck tomorrow mate, hope you get off to a flyer.
