Re: Anybody Catching
Sorry guys, I never new it was a heavily used water, And i understand the peril that can be caused by the waters being over fished, I think we should all turn about so the background is just trees or bushes were we can I am all for keeping the megga hunters away from causing suffering to the fish

Re: Anybody Catching
As it happens i did a guestimate of the distance between the scars, And i recon they are about 4.5" appart, And the nutter i was fishing with said it must have been a monster that had hold of it, But in fact i think it would have been about 18 to 20Lb, As the biggest Pike i have had from these waters is 24Lb odd, and 20Lb'ers are as rare as rocking horse sh/t haha, stubbo wrote:looks like something had a go at that fish paddy did you measure the bite radius lol

yeah paddy i'd say you're about right in your guesstimate... probably a high double.
i once had a 12lber with a similar mark on it only slightly wider (probably about 6")... spent the rest of the day watching my rods like a hawk because the wound was still really fresh meaning whatever had a hold of the 12 was probably still in the vicinity... never got another run that day lol

Re: Anybody Catching
Haha i know what you mean by watching the rod after an atack, Did it myself last season, Had a pike of about 5or 6Lb taken while reeling it in, You just know that it wont take your dead bait when you cast back in but you dont stop trying your hand,robh107 wrote:paddy pike wrote:As it happens i did a guestimate of the distance between the scars, And i recon they are about 4.5" appart, And the nutter i was fishing with said it must have been a monster that had hold of it, But in fact i think it would have been about 18 to 20Lb, As the biggest Pike i have had from these waters is 24Lb odd, and 20Lb'ers are as rare as rocking horse sh/t haha, stubbo wrote:looks like something had a go at that fish paddy did you measure the bite radius lol

Re: Anybody Catching

Re: Anybody Catching
We all worry about the Pike gassing up, And being over tired when your putting them back, I try to get them back as soon as i can, If they are gassed up and you probably already know this, But get 4 bank sticks or twigs and peg them 2 either side of the Pike with the Pikes head aiming towards the flow of water, And just let the Pike rest, This can be anything from a couple of minutes to about 25 minutes, It seems like a life time if you are up to your knees in the water, But when the Pike is rested, And the gas has equaled out, Then it will just get on about its days hunting, Dont let a gassed up Pike ruin your fishing mate, In Ireland years ago, The lads who had a gassed up pike would throw the Pike head first into the water, And believe it or not the sudden rush of oxigenated water going through the gills seemed to be all those Pike needed, But i think pegging the Pike out is the better option, stubbo wrote:d o you find the pike go back well in summer temperatures paddy had few upsets over the years i know it depends on the type of water but in general they dont do to well in warm weather after agood fight lets be honest your going to take your time with a decent fish ........it could go t.ts
